walking with a limp

Hi

Can anyone tell me if still walking with a limp after THR is normal. I'm 7 weeks post op and stopped using my crutches about 3 weeks ago.pain isn't too bad apart from getting in and out of car and a bit of pain in the night when im bed. I had a bit of a limp before my op obviously due to my hip problem? But I thought that would go.is this normal? And will it go eventually?

There's probably still some swelling that needs to settle. As long as it's not pain causing your limp. Takes up to 3+ months for things to properly 'settle' I'm told

I'm almost four months post-op (with a still unjoined fracture above the op site). A couple of days  ago I posted on the forum about how I have been limping at "regional town pace". Last night, I walked to the shops and walked quite quickly with barely a trace of a limp. Amazing how much things can change within the space of a few days...

      Belle,

That's the physical roller coaster - happens without you noticing. So glad you are improving, ditching the limp, I still have some of mine.

Yeah. My biggest worry now is getting run over by an impatient mother in an SUV who can't see that I have had surgery and can't rush because they can't wait a few seconds for me to get across the intersection. The crutches used to alert them. Now they just keep nudging closer and closer as I cross at the lights...

I hear you there. I think it my be better just to carry a cane so people get it. I'm constantly saying sorry if I'm slow, I just had hip replacement. I was thinking a lightweight telescoping cane, so you can pull it out of the back pocket in times like crossing the street or stairs lol

I'm using my stick when going to work at the moment, just so people keep out of my way and they get the idea of why I am slower than they are.

Hi Lisa - 10 weeks here. I still do limp from time to time. I have to really concentrate to ensure I walk "normally".

Oddly, I find walking quickly makes the limp go away - worth a try?
