Hi Karen I was on 900 mg for about 21/3 to 3 years. I then went on 600 mg for a few months. After a few months I just went on 300mg at nite.  The reason I wanted to stop was because of weight gain, insomnia, headaches, eye issues and just feeling angry every day. I finally had my dr prescribe 100 mg and I went on 200mg for a few months then down to 100mg for another few months. The withdrawal was horrible. All of the symptoms above were still with me and also flu like symptoms and a really, really angry feeling like I never felt before.also depression. Im finally off of all the Gabapentin for almost 1 week.  First few days were hell and I am still experiencing brain fog coordination issues but Im hoping the worst is passed. I will never take another pill before I totally check it out beforhand. Sorry this was so long and I really wish you lots of luck. Take care.

Oh dear this sounds terrible I was hoping this would be a simple process obviously it's not I'm so annoyed at my doctor. I now understand why I've gone from a confident person to a very nervous and no confidence. It's the brain fog that I can't stand I've just started a new job and there is a lot of office work. I'm training but God it's so hard when you are forgetting words and getting tongue tied on the phone . At this rate I will be unemployed as my trainer thinks I'm thick . I used to run a business before I started taking these bloody pills . I hope it doesn't take to long to get off them hope you get back to your old self soon thank you for your replay X

Hi Karen, my last Gabapentin was last Wed. The Dr put me on withdrawal. I was only taking 200 mg at night. For the first 3 wks I took 100 mg every night, the next 2 wks 100 mg every other night, the last 3 wks was the hardest, pretty awful withdrawal, 1 pill every 3 days. Now I'm off and not going back. I was on it for 14 mnths. I want to wish you well with whatever way you decide to detox. It ain't no picnic. I'm not out of the woods yet. Today have burning, painful feet and legs. Keep telling myself. It too will pass.

    Take care if yourself.

Look up info about tapering off benzoids. It's very similar. I've read and follow the 10% rule, either per 2 or 4 weeks. I decided to go with 4 weeks as I've so sensitive to the drug. Yes, your problems are common, but realize there will be withdrawal, or as the experts call it "discontinuation syndrome". What problems you had when you started it, you may have as you decrease. When you have the symptoms may vary. But for me, I'd get more confusion, pain, memory loss, fatigue and weepiness. Fun, right? But MUCH better than being on the meds. After the first few months I felt more like myself, no longer numb (I was at 2700 mg) and the fog lifted a bit. There are FB groups like Gabapentin Awareness for more advice or do some research. People are finally talking about this "perfectly safe drug with few side effects" and telling what REALLY happens. I think you now you can't go cold turkey. You can have seizures and severe side effects that may last for many months. With my one month schedule, I have bad stretches, but I think it's easier than others who do it over 2 weeks. At least I have some good days, but it will take twice as long to be free of it.
