Want to come off tablets soon but they do help me! Help!

Hi, i am 19 and have been taking fluoxetine ever since i was 17. I take it because i have severe OCD and ive been through therapy lots and lots of it and then they suggested these tablets. They have helped me so much i cant stress this enough! I still get bad days here and there or a bad few days in a row but overall they help!

Sometimes i forget to take them here and there and whenever i do my OCD starts to become bad again and i just feel abit rubbish. I feel as if ive become dependent on them and i dont want that! But the reality is that they do help me with my daily life. I know coming off of them slowly can help but im just very scared as my OCD can become very bad and i have tried to kill myself before and ended up in the hospital and i do not want to end up there again. Had anyone got any tips or going through the same thing?

I was on Fluoxetine for 10 years on and off and sufferered from quite extreme side effects when I came off. All I would say is have a plan with your Gp about weaning off very slowly.

I think it is important to be prepared to have episodes where your mood or OCD may worsen and try not to feel angry about them but try to have coping strategies to deal with them if they occur.

I find it helpful to be open with someone about how you are feeling and your concerns, someone you can go to when you are feeling bad as talking about it can be so hard but beneficial.

Be certain that you are ready to come off and deal with any symptoms you have. If you are unable to come off of them and they help you to live a life you enjoy, do not beat yourself up about needing them.
