warning for fissure

I have been on here for a year now, after colon surgeon told me I had a fissure. He said to cancel my colonoscopy, it would be too much pain. I followed his instructions, then 3 months later I knew I could not take the pain anymore. So I went back to my gastro doctor and told him I wanted a colonoscopy. I had a colonoscopy last Thursday. He found a mass in my colon, there was "NO" fissure. Now to my shock I have colon cancer. Don't know how I will get through this, but I am in shock all this time treating a fissure.... I just want to warn everyone to make sure they 'really' have fissures and always get a colonoscopy. I am so sorry now I listened to this colon surgeon. Now I am so down in the dumps, I don't know what to do. I have a new surgeon who is taking care of me, I need chemo and radiation and maybe a bag. I am so upset. Thanks to everyone who tried to help me. Please just make sure of fissures.

Thank you for your kind words, yes, that is what I am trying to do, so no one else finds this out too late. I don't want to upset anyone, just to let them know what happened to me. Thanks for the hugs, I sure need them.

i am so sorry to hear that, i pray you have a speedy recovery and may God give you strength to get through this with ease.

also, may i ask, did you have normal fissure symptoms, such as bright red blood, sharp pain during bm, spasms etc

or did you have any other symptoms such as stomach cramps, dark blood during bm etc?

Great question's, As fissure cause intense glass shredding pain, blood. Where was the mass? And what stage? lower rectum? Or higher up the sigmoid... As most colorectal specialist will visualize with an anoscope, which basically shows him everything in the lower rectal area(6inches) especially if hemorrhoids are suspected. A fissure will generally present a Y shape on the outer which could indicated a fissure in the canal. Mary , you will be in our thoughts and prayers. Please remember, cancer can be beat! 🙏🙌

Yes, I had sharp pain in my rectum and I suffered all day, except when I took Ibuphophen and a Tylenol... some blood yes, and spasms. I thought that was what I really had, till I couldn't take the pain and went back to my gastro doctor and told him I want a colonoscopy done. I had no idea I had rectum cancer, till woke up. The first surgeon a yr ago, took no time to check further, he was a know it all..... I am so angry with him, but I know that won't help me now.

I had no stomach problems or dark blood. Since I had colonoscopy the extreme pain has left and i just have the pressure pain and spasms. I don't know why, but I am not missing the pain. Thanks for writing me.

First off, you shouldn't worry because it is possible that cancer would actually be easier to treat than a fissure. You might end up coming out of this better than the rest of us here. According to a research I did you apparently have a pretty high chance of surviving a colon cancer.

You would think that cancer is a death sentence, but thanks to advancements in science this is no longer the case.

I wish you all the best Mary, any comfort needed just feel free to message anyone of us.

Thank you for such a nice letter, I hope I survive. I had no idea this is what I have. I have a lot of meds to treat a fissure, which never worked. Thanks for writing me.

Hi Sweetheart! You have been so wonderful to talk to on here. My prayers for you to have a speedy healing. I agree with John. My grandmother on my Father's side passed away at 62 from colon cancer before I was born in the early 1970's. I wish I had known her even for a short time. These days she could of been saved and lived full life. Keep fighting, there is always hope.

Thank you for your kind words. I am so scared of this and it is a shock to me. I go for MRI this Wed to see if it has traveled. I just want it out. I will do what I have to, I have so many people telling me not to get chemo, it makes you really sick... I am getting radiation first. I hope it hasn't traveled to other places in my body. I am so confused.
