Was doing great 6 weeks after Aquablation, then Stream became worse !

I had Aquablation 6/30/23 My recovery went very well and I had a nice full stream, and was

empting my bladder quickly. Around the 6 week mark my stream became very fine, starts off strong but then weakens and starts dripping and takes much longer to finish.

Also urgency and frequency have increased again as well.

I tried to get back in to see the doctor but got the nurse practioner instead.

I was tested for infection and came back negative.

I was told to go back on Flomax, and that it takes up to 3 months to see the results.

Has anyone experienced this situation of getting worse after being better ??

I am 66, very healthy, prostate size was 90 grams

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it is something that will pass like a blood clot. Keep us posted. I have seen posts where people can get worse and then better again. If things don't improve by the 3 month mark, I would ask your doctor to do a cystoscopy and look for anything that may be obstructing.

Since my aquablation procedure is coming up in about 3 weeks, I been watching a lot of videos on aquablation to convince myself I am doing the right thing. I found one that may apply to your issue. It talks about Aquablation, but also discusses briefly how anterior lobes are not resected during the aquablation procedure and that could be a reason for the aquablation procedure to not be successful. This is pretty rare, but may apply in your case. I'm not sure if I can post youtube links here, but just do a search for uronurse episode 51 which is on aquablation. They also discuss how things get worse before they get better.

    Tony,

The couple of cases I'm aware of where someone experienced decreased flow/issues weeks after Aquablation, it was either because of a UTI that may or may not have been pre-existing and another where a portion of the anterior prostate not treated by the water jet collapsed some to partially constrict the bladder neck.

Personally, and I'm not an MD, if it were me I would not go back on Flomax without the urologist first inspecting the interior of the prostate/bladder neck via cystoscopy. The whole point of having the surgery was to get off medication and pee better. I think you need to find out why you have these new symptoms, not start on a "band-aid" treatment with pills.

    Best,

    Russ

UPDATE : I went back to doctor, he was going to do a cystoscopy and found that my urethra had scar tissue at the opening that was caused by the catheter. He had to stretch out my urethra at the tip. Even though he used a numbing agent it was quite painful, but I now have a much better flow.

Its been 9 weeks since my aquablation and I'm doing very well and pleased with the results.

Great news - Happy for you! Glad it was something relatively simple. Did he say whether that is something that may need retreatment?
