Was feeling depressed since few weeks, prescribed Sertraline but feeling kind of awful.

Yesterday went to the doctor and was prescribed Sertraline (50mg) to take once a day. My pharmacist had also suggested to take it once and in the morning as it makes you restless - making it hard to fall asleep.

Well I had it today morning was ok - then I noticed that I got overly energised even my friends noticed. But, then towards the evening I don't know if it's related to sertraline but I've been shaky, feels as though I can't breath, a bit nauseas, when I yawn just feels as though my breath has stopped.

Getting kind of worried now as if I stop these tablets I won't be able to focus on my university assignments at all. Should I continue taking them for next days? If I'm still feeling the same way go to the doctors?

Hi Asmara, break 50mg in half take that 25 first week, it's sort of a break in, then take 50 second week, mornings are best, but you will have side effects no matter what, shaking, yawning alot, but anytime your struggling or have questions get on this forum there are a lot of us going thru this, and everyone is here for you, we WILL help you thru it. Hope this helps, Tim

Hi Asmara, sorry I had to skip for a second, the first 3 weeks are the roughest, least they were for me, week four doc took me to 100mg, and things began to really calm down, I would have bad days but not like first 3 weeks. I'm now in week 7 and feel really good, you may have trouble sleeping ask your doctor for trazadone or something similar it will help you sleep and that's important dealing with this drug. If you have trouble focusing, or shaking too bad, or just dealing in general, ask for diazipam,Lorazapam, or xanax low doses, they help to calm you and let you focus, I'm on xanax 1mg and break it in half, and it has been a big help. Hope this helps,Tim one more thing use this forum there are wonderful caring people here. 👍
