Following the death of both parents then my husband being diagnosed with cancer i was put on citalapram. After six months i couldnt cope with side effects so with medical advice gradually came off tgem .however the anxiety and panic returned so today ive been put on sertraline. Has anyone found that this regime has had less side effects? I am such a panicker that i can convince myself into side effects. I took half a pill ( as prescribed) at lunch time and have already decided i feel nauseous aalthough i know it couldnt possibly be affecting me already!

    Hello, Lesley

I'm pretty new to this, but been on Zoloft now for 30 days. Started off taking 50mg.

Took the 50mg for about 4-5 days and out of nowhere, stomach ache, panic attacks.

    Felt pretty bad all around.

Went to my Doc. Was there for 1/2 hour and panic attack, stomach ache set in.

Had to walk outside for like 20 minutes.

Came back in and talked to Doc. Told all my symptoms and panic set in again and queezy feeling, ears ringing. Had to leave. Had my wife with me. I felt like it was the end of the world. Helplessness, anxiety, sickness.

After my attack was over, I was worn out and tired. So just went home. Doctor prescribed Xanax for my attacks. My wife went to the pharmacy and picked them up for me. After I got .5mg Xanax in me, it took about an hour, and the anxiety, and panic attacks let up a little and it was manageable.

I started taking the Xanax.5mg and Zoloft .50mg in the mornings.

On the 26th day of Zoloft.50mg I went to the doctor for my check up. Told the doctor,I'm still having anxiety and panic a little. Doctor said to up the dose of Zoloft from .50mg to 100mg.

So I'm up to 100mg Zoloft and .5 of Xanax now daily and .25 Xanax if need be of a panic attack.

I'm no longer super sick like in the beginning of first starting the Zoloft. I have a little appetite, but not much. I have like a buzzing/ringing in my ears off and on. It feels like it's getting better. Everyone and everything I read, says it takes 6-8 weeks to really get the medicine into your system. It really does seam like it is working, it does.

Some people have different side effects though.

I hope all is well, and yes this really stinks having to go threw this to get well again, but I'm willing to try my hardest for myself and my family, and for my future.

    Happy thoughts happy thoughts

What do you mean by side effects? There are two issues with sertraline. Physiological side effects include nausea, vomiting, disassociation, etc. Psychological side effects include worsening anxiety and depression that was never there before.

In general, sertraline as the least side effects.

It can definitely be affecting you already!! Based on your description, it sounds like you JUST started taking it. Be aware it takes 4-6 weeks to stabilize in your system, and thus you'll have 4-6 weeks of horrendous side effects. One interesting fact is that my psychiatrist says young people metabolize the drug much faster than older people, so that 4-6 weeks can be 4-6 days.

Bottom line, if you've been on the drug/dosage for 4-6 days with no improvement and no major sickness, increase the dose. It's worth it.

31 days now. 4th day at 100mg. Was on 50mg.

Ringing in the ears is what gets me. It's weird. Little hard to focus with the eyes, but not much anxiety, or panic. Took a nap earlier for like 2hrs, and been wide awake and not tired at all now, and that was several hours ago. Still not to to bad today.

How long have you been on it MJALps?

      And what dosage?

Sounds like you are pretty informed on the med.

Hope all is well with ya, and thanks for the reply.
