Hi Matthew, i had to wait about 5 to 6 weeks, just try not to worry, they are checking to confirm its Barrett's thats what they did with mine.  They will monitor you on an annual basis - if they find anything else they will tell you, but try not to think too much about it, i cried when they told me i had barrett's then when the emotion was released i got my head round it and was told, its not cancer, the cells are just abnormal, and they will be monitoring me, so just remember that, you will be monitored!!

    Hope this helps,

I'm in Ohio and had 2 biopsies a year apart. Both came back in 7-10 days.

It can be a stressful wait... Can't imagine waiting 5-6 weeks.

Hope all turns out well. Remember, if there's dysplasia, you can get proper treatment early on. If it is cancer it would be obvious. Surveillance is the key.

Do you think the gastroenterologist can tell if it is actually cancer when they do the endoscopy? I just had the endoscopy yesterday and was told I had Barrett's. they did the biopsy and I was told to come back in 6 weeks. That seems like such a long time!!!

      Hey hopeful

If cancer is present, it's possible that your GE can see it. However at the very earliest stages it's unlikely he/she can tell. They have equipment that is relatively new that can detect small tumors and swollen lymph nodes through ultrasound attached to the scope. The tumors at that stage are usually confined inside the esophageal wall.

I wouldn't worry though. The doc just probably wants to confirm the pathology report and set up surveillance going forward.
