WATCHING THE SNOW

Well i have been up since 6 with the dreaded urticaria, had a really nice sleep though.

Iam looking out of my window into the back garden and it is snowing, all the birds are frantically feeding the dafs are all smiling ohhhhh a robin has appeard on the plant pot, sorry ladies i know this forum is not for this kind of chatting, but it looks so lovely.

I am drinking my lemon and honey drink, and today i am meeting my friend and we are going into Leeds, coffe and cake maybe?

If anybody as any thoughts if the urticaria is caused by pred i would like to hear.

Regards Margaret

Margaret, not sure whether you are taking the steroid tablets with the entric coating or  whether we've suggested this already, but a few patients have found that they can be allergic to the coating.  When they have rinsed it off, their skin has returned to normal.  If you aren't taking the tablets with the enteric coating, then try showering without soapy products, instead using Doublebase Cream (available on prescription and over-the-counter).

Enjoy that coffee morning with your friend - just what the doctor ordered!

I think this rash and urticaria seems to be the norm, as a few people h and hace  come with feedback.

I have urticaria and it definitely isn't enteric coating on pred! In my case it is likely to be wheat as it happens a week or so after eating it (it has to be something REALLY good by the way).

In most cases they never find why the patient has it so they treat it symptomatically - and pred is actually one of the treatments. If it is the chronic sort - i.e. it lasts more than a few weeks - it is thought to be an autoimmune cause, just like PMR. Use antihistamines to reduce the itching - but also ask your doctor as they may need to consider ruling out other causes.
