Water pill/Triamterene for MD
Posted , 3 users are following.
I was recently diagnosed with atypical Ménière's. He gave me a water pill to help.
I've taken water pills in the past for weight loss and they increased my vertigo. I asked the neurotologist if it was the same thing and he said no but I read a side effect of this pill is dizziness.
Is this something that eventually goes away or is rarely experienced? Has anyone that has taken this had good experiences?
Thank you!

Hi,
I've been take Triamterine/Hydrchlorothiazide 37.5-25mg/twice daily for about a year now, and I know it has helped to keep my vertigo from getting too severe, along with diet and steroid injections, and I've had no side effects from it, whatsoever. It's a fairly mild, potassium-sparing diuretic, so you don't have to worry about your potassium levels, as you would with some of the other diuretics. It's important to drink plenty of water, as you could definitely get dizzy if you allow yourself to get dehydrated. But in the end, some people experience side effects with certain drugs, and other people don't. My previous doctor could hardly believe what a horrible reaction I had to Sprianolactone, another diuretic I was on. I was constantly dizzy and nauseous, and eventually became hyperkalemic and had to stop taking it. Of all the patients he had, I was the only one who experienced the potential side effects of Spiranalactone. The only way to know is to give it a try. You'll probably know pretty quickly, whether of not it agrees with you.
I wish you the best of luck!

Wow I'm glad you found something that works! That sounded scary.
I'm gonna try it and see how I feel.

Yes I am allergic to sulfa but from what I've researched and from what the doc said, it would be rate to have a cross reaction. So I'm hoping I don't!
Thank you!
