    Dear Sara

I was very keen to progress as quickly as possible and had declined physio so no pressure there, I just listened to my body.

Quite soon I was using just one crutch but felt that my walking gait and strength of waking was not progressing as fast as I had expected going on my earlier progress when using both crutches.

Sooo, I started using both crutches and within a few days I found my walking had improved greatly with not only a much improved gait but my walking was very much stronger. A few days later I completely discarded both crutches as I was walking a couple of miles each outing strongly and with an excellent gait.

This was my crutch experience which is also found by others here who have shared their experiences with me.

    Cheers Richard

      Hi Richard,

glad i came across this. i have been walking with one crutch for 4 days now and i find myself putting more weight on the uninjured side and not walking in normal gait.. in so much pain the last two days i went back to two crutches today and my walking gait is so much better. do you think i will still get my strength and walk normal faster and ditch the crutches with two than just keeping one crutch? im 15 weeks post ORIF (trimalleolar fracture)

      Dear Anne

Glad that you have reverted to two crutches. You are giving your new hip a chance to recover muscle strength but doing the exercises are all part of your recovery.

When the time is right to discard the crutches you will know and get rid of both when that happens. You nit only should speed your recovery using both but are safeguarding your back.

It really beats me what the logic is of some doctors and physics to try to get patients to use just one.

      Cheers Richard
