Weakness and numbness - undiagnosed

Hi there,

I would like to share my experience and see if anyone out there feels the same or has any clue.

I have been feeling very weak to the point of having low blood pressure on different occasions. I could sleep 10-12 hours and wake up feeling horrible. I have numbness in my hands and legs. Sometimes my legs feel seriously weak that I need to hold strong to the hand rail. I have shaky hands and legs. I am eating half of what I used to eat hence I have also lost weight. On the bad days I dont feel appetite at all when I feel really weak and I feel constantly about to faint. I feel this general ailment/discomfort in arms and hands. Somedays I also have this sensation in my throat like if something its stocked or swollen there. It feels so much that I feel nauseas.

All blood test came back normal including diabetes, thyroid and cortisol.Only LDH a little bit lower than normal.

Before all this which has been going on for 5 months now I was healthy and happy. Running 10k marathon, traveling, etc etc. I can't do anything of that now sad

Doctors have not been very helpful at all obviously.

Any ideas?

I currently don’t have any numbness but I have been very weak for about 6 weeks now. Sometimes it’s hard to breathe. Before that, I was perfectly healthy too. All of my tests keep coming back normal, however I am currently waiting on results for autoimmune diseases like MS etc. You should convince your doctor to do those blood tests even if you don’t think you have it. Someone else also mentioned to me that she had anxiety attack her nervous system. It took her 3 months to realize because we all don’t want to believe it’s anxiety. Especially because we are feeling these symptoms 24/7. I think the same is happening to me but i want to rule out as much as I can first. Hope this helps and hope you find answers.

    Hi Sara,

All I can offer is my experience with similar symptoms. For almost 6 months I have had nausea (this has now disappeared), aching all over, the weird sensation in throat, almost like indigestion or a lump, headaches and generally feeling ill and fatigued. I have had lots of tests and investigations and Doctors cannot find anything. They have said it has most likely been a virus or infection of some kind and now I am post viral. My colleague at work has been affected the same way. So your symptoms could possibly be caused by a virus. Go back and speak to your doctor if you are still not satisfied, but take heart that so far your tests haven’t shown anything. I totally understand how distressing it is to feel so awful and not know why, even if you know it’s not serious it’s still frightening and debilitating. But I am slowly improving. Good luck to you.

Did they check your B12 and folate when they did your bloods? Low b12 can cause extreme fatigue, dizziness and peripheral neurological symptoms like what you’re describing in your hands as well as loads of other symptoms. I went for about 2 years feeling constantly exhausted and kept getting tingly feeling in my fingers. I just put it down to stress and anxiety. When I started going dizzy in work I went to the doctor and they found my b12 was extremely low. The good news is it’s usually easily treated with injections . Might be worth checking out.
