WEAKNESS IN LEGS

OK ladies, i know i have been on here a lot lately, but i am getting concerned. In December, i woke up with an extremely sore knee (no injury) & i babied it until i was forced to get an MRI & ortho appt. Aside from almost being bone on bone on my right knee (cortizone & knee exercises are helping) what is concerning me most is my inability to almost walk. i am almost crippled when i get up out of bed, or after prolonged sitting, i just cant walk very far anymore. i feel like my muscles, tendons & ligaments have all given out in my lower legs. i know this is not true because i am able to stretch and work my legs during exercise. It is now going on 5 months & its frankly flipping me out. i am 62, 7 years post menopause, far too young to be feeling like a 90 year old - can this really be from the lack of hormones? help if anyone else is experiencing this -

hi deb, I am struggling with weak feeling legs at the moment. it comes and goes for me. I'm 51, no period for 4 months and some days I just dont have the energy to walk across the room. although frustrating, there are worse symptoms for me. hang in there. sending hugs your way!

Thanks ladies for your reply - i know this has to be from the lack of hormones, since it came on fast, really only affects my lower legs & i dont really feel achyness & weakness in other parts of my body - yes, i know ever symptom we get it seems to be the worst thing ever, but being able to walk is pretty crucial...ugh! i just want to wake up from this bad dream pretty soon!

hi hopeforever - Unfortunately my leg issues started in December and have only gotten worse.i also am retaining a bit of fluid around my knees and occasionally around my ankles. oddly enough, i did read in the 66 meno symptoms that weakness in legs and edema can be another symptom of menopause.it is so weird how i almost cannot walk and yet i can do my exercises fine. i pray everyday this goes away.

So sorry to hear that you have not improved. My legs are weak and have a strange feeling that i cannot explain. My bones muscles and tendons feel just off. This morning i got up and had to hold onto things. I am praying that this leaves me soon and also praying for you. Have a good day. Hugs

hi hope - i am so sorry that you are experiencing the leg issue as well - i think i said in my previous post that now i am getting pockets of edema on my knee & sometimes at my ankle it feels like i am retaining a little fluid - overall my legs feel puffy to me & do ache - i did notice that on the 66 symptoms of menopause it does list that retaining fluid in legs along with aches & pains is actually a symptom. My friend recommended that i go to this healer & he said that my digestion is congested primarily my liver & i need to detox my colon so my body can function better & thats why i am experiencing the aches & pains & edema. Oddly enough, i did read where during menopause your liver suffers from being able to process things proberly - i am so over this whole experience - the healer said when your body is in optimum shape it should be able to handle the change perfectly - so i guess i was damaged goods before i started this process 10 years ago - NOTE TO SELF: next time around i'll try to live a stress free/chemical/toxin & sugar free vegetarian lifestyle -

Hi Debra and Hope,
My legs have been feeling "rubbery" the past few days too. I was talking it over with my Mom, and she recalls having been anemic during peri, which caused weak trembly feeling in legs (and some other things... fatigued easily, insomnia, restless legs at night).A few weeks on over-the-counter iron supplements sorted her out. It happens again every few years, as she isn't a big meat eater. The iron supplement helps her every time.
If you have a Drs appt coming up, maybe request an iron and ferritin level check?
Hugs, Ladies!!
Sara

Sara so funny you speak of iron. My neighbour told me to get some iron pills . I took a dose this morning and legs feel much better than yesterday. Thank you for your advice, i am praying that this week is better than last week because it was complete hell.. Hugs

hi Sara - Thank you for your response but unfortunately, low iron is not my issue, in fact, i have to worry about my iron being too high - i hope that suggestion helps someone out there -
