Weaning off

Posted , 6 users are following.

so I've made the decision to wean myself off of fluoxetine, I was on 60mg and I'm now down to 20mg every other day, I felt fine at first but the last few days I've felt really shaken and anxious, I've decided to slow down my weaning schedule but I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience while withdrawing? I've also been struggling to sleep and been really out of it during the day. I guess I just wanna know if this is likely to pass quickly. Tia Roxi

Just read the post below mine and it answers my question smile I guess I just did it too fast, I might stick with 20mg daily for a little longer and hope my symptoms even themselves out

Hi there, I had exactly the same problem when cutting down my 20mgs and the side effects do subside eventually! Just keep yourself calm and don't worry yourself.

I've only recently come of fluoxitine and I still get occasional dizzy spells and anxiety (only been off it three weeks) but its getting much better. I weaned myself of it over a period of a few months other wise I think my side effects would be much worse.

    Hope this helps?

I've been interested myself being tired of the side effects and Interactions with other meds. I've read 4-10% reduction at a time, 2-6 weeks between. The more time the Better. If I would have known about all the side effects, I never would have gotten on an SSRI. Keep us posted and your not alone and I'm right behind you.

Withdrawing from any SSRI should be as slowly as possible.  Too quick and you'll become very ill.  I came off Citalopram and it took 6 months to do so.  If you think how long it took for these meds to get into your system, then it should work the other way too.  Months and months.

    The longer the better.
