Wearing heels after fusion bunion operation?

Hi
Call me vain, but I am very concerned that I apparently won't be able to wear heels EVER if I have a fusion bunion operation. I'm not talking huge here, but the surgeon said anything over half an inch would not be possible. Is this really the case? At present I usually wear shoes with heels of 1 - 1 1/2 inches, so not huge by any means. I know this is trivial compared to some of the other discussions but, as I have little pain with my bunions and the op would only be to make is possible to wear 'ordinary' shoes rather than being confined to the limited availability and styles of extra extra wide, I am concerned. I don't want to be still struggling to find footwear!
Thanks for any thoughts.

My Dr said the key to getting your mobility back on the foot is to start moving the toe at two weeks so that you dont allow the scar tissue to make it stiff.

My doctor says I will be in a cast for six weeks. Did you have a toe fusion? I'm concerned that I won't be able. To move my toe but it makes sense to do so, I'm only 4'10" and wearing heels, e fen though short ones is important to me.

I didn't have a cast. My foot was completely wrapped and in a surgery shoe even though I didn't get to use it as you cannot put any pressure on the foot without dying from the pain so I completely stayed off the foot and would use the crutches to get up to the bathroom only. I am now two weeks post op. He replaced the badages and removed the stitches on my foot last Friday and the swelling has significantly gone down. It is looking great. I can now get around with just the shoe and no crutches and yes, my goal is to be wearing my heels again by about 7 weeks.

I wear 4 inch heels and was able to get back into them and go dancing at 6-7 weeks post op. Wearing heels after was my biggest concern as I am only 5' 2". I just had the surgery on my left foot on 10/6 and I am recovering from that now. The key is following your doctors instuctions to a T.

did you have a fusion of your toe joint? I did and have plate and screws which makes wearing heels difficult.

So I got a bunion removed by surgery 10 years ago and all the sudden just this morning there is a bunion on The side of my toe right where the other one that got removed was and it's also directly on my incision scar... It hurts SO BAD Everytime it gets bumped or even if it's not getting bumped into and I keep getting painful Charlie horses there too... I'm scared about this and don't know what to do
