Week 12 on Sertraline

Hi all supportive people. I am getting very worried now.... I have been on SERT for 3 months now and the last three weeks on 150mg. I am still constantly depressed and don't enjoy anything and don't feel emotions. I sometimes feel better in the afternoon or evening but I am starting to doubt whether Sert is going to help:( I just can't imagine an option of starting new meds as Sert is my 3rd AD since May this year 😦 Do I still have a chance to feel better on Sert? Every day I am starting to loose hope and worry I have a treatment resistant depression 😦

Hi I had dose upped to 150 from 100 & it has taken 7 weeks to feel anyway good, so maybe hang in there for a few more weeks & see how you go. Maybe have a chat with your Doctor & tell him how you feel & where you are at. feel better soon x

Thanks Jean, did you not feel a lot of relief from depression on 50& 100?

Not until I was on 100 then my Dad passed away suddenly, got through that, but coming up to first anniversary I went down again, so upped to 150 which after a number of weeks got me back on track, so much so I came back to 100 some months later that was good until my Mum passed away last year after a horrible number of years fighting cancer, again same thing, this year, coming to anniversary I went down again, hence the 150... I think in both cases with all that was going on around the time of both passing I didnt have time to think but too much time coming to anniversary. x

Life is so unpredictable and constantly tests us... How long have you been on 150 now? Did 150 help with your mood?

Hi.
I'd suggest you going back to your doctors and let them know how you are feeling. I came off sertraline a year ago and managed to stay off it even through losing my Mum. However 6 weeks ago i had to go back on It. I'm just starting to feel a bit better now. Everyone reacts differently to them so may be your doc needs to know and look into other options. I've been referred for CBT this time so may be you need extra help too?
Hope all works out for you but def see the doc
x

Thank you, yes I have an appointment next week. I am attending CBT but even my counsellor suggested a higher dose of meds because my depression scores haven't been improving.

I have heard that it can take up to 200mg and even 13 weeks or more (and it takes longer with each dosage increase so that also lengthens the time) to get relief. Anti-depressants are notoriously slow-acting and many people go off them in frustration before they have had a chance to work. Try to hang in there longer, consider upping your dosage, and keep track of any improvements, no matter how small (like feeling better in the afternoon/evening) because that can be a sign that the meds are starting to work for you. Also ask those around you like friends and family if they have noticed any small improvements, because sometimes you aren't aware of small improvements in your mood or functioning but other people can see them. Good luck and don't lose hope.
