hi, i know we all really want fast results, but 5 weeks is not a great deal of time. you should wait until 8 weeks (at least) to see if the 100mg improves the anxiety issues you are having.

if 100mg is not working well enough after 8 weeks, you could increase the dose, but i would only do that if you are not getting too many/much side effects from taking 100mg (...if the side effects are very mild though, then perhaps you would do well with a dose higher than 100mg).

or another option after the 8 weeks on 100mg is to try an anti-anxiety med instead of an ssri, if anxiety is the main problem you are having.  your doctor will be able to go over the options with you.

or you could take an anti-anxiety med along with the 100mg of sertraline, or go down to 50mg of sertaline along with taking an anti-anxiety med.

there's lots of options for you and the right answer is out there so it's just a case of keep going until you get there, and you will, so try not to over-worry (i know that's difficult sometimes though!)

hey again, me 2, i started on 50mg but it wasnt enough to help me (it's often just the starting dose for adults anyway so it's very common to increase from 50mg)

im on 100mg now, im doing well but need more time to decide if that's what i will stick with (i'm giving myself 3 months on 100mg to make sure it is properly in my system, before deciding if i want to increase again or switch/add other meds etc) smile    ps. other little changes are good too if u can do that, eg. i have changed my diet (no more eating crap and fizzy drinks) and that has def helped me further (every little helps!)

I'm gonna give it 3 months to because I'm scared to change because of side effects!

yep im trying to avoid going up too early in dose, because then you can feel like you are stuck on that dose and going any lower would be 'risky', so i think it's better to give any dose a proper chance (a few months) to really get working on you, before deciding if you want to try an increase in dose - ...but if having a really bad time on a certain dose, take something fast acting like a benzo med (xanax etc) alongside the antideprssant med for a month, to keep u calm and feeling better as you get used to the current dose of sertraline (or whatever antidepressant someone is on)

i had a little bit of anxiety today so rather than start thinking "oh god my sertraline isn't working, i better increase it aargh!"  -  i instead had a read on the internet about anxiety, i think it's a really good idea to get tips and read stuff on the internet. it takes away the whole 'mysery' and confusion regarding anxiety, so you can really see anxiety for what it is, and not make it such a big deal (which we all tend to do here)

do a google search of  'six simple habits that defeat anxiety' (by deanna repich) and have a read  =]

      Hi Sparrow,

I am taking Sertraline for almost 3 weeks due to my panic attacks...

And it making me sooooo drowsy, that I literally pass out for 2-4 hours during the day. I can NOT keep my eyes open and I literally get uncoscious. I am on 25 mg. My Dr suggested to start with 25, so that my body gets used to it (as I am very sensetive to medicine and my body has extraordinary reaction). I am supposed to take 50 mg in the coming week. Does it make you also so drowsy? Is it gonna stay forever like this?

I am taking it at night though...

thanks for your answer and time.

hello Liana, i did get tired when first starting out taking sertraline but that side effect passed for me after one month.

your body may still be getting used to the new med, so I would give it more time to see if the tiredness phase passes, and do give 50mg a try also, because some people are less tired if the dose is increased.

in the worst case if your tiredness does not go away, there are other similar meds u can try instead so dont worry.  i have taken a similar ssri med in the past called 'escitalopram' and found that one did not make me tired at all (you can start on a very low dose of that one, 5mg of escitalopram for a few weeks and then increase to 10mg if you wish)

so give sertraline a bit more time and you can try increasing your dose, and if things dont get better in 3-4 weeks, you could simply switch over to something else until you get on the right med for you

      Thanks for your reply,

I should be more patient and wait how it goes on.

About other SSRIs, I dont think I would be having any chances. To be more precise, I could handle my panic attacks with a tricyclic-antidepressant-med, which is working great on me. As I said before, my body is very sensetive and my dr tried many differnet med on me and finally this one worked. But as I am planning to get pregnant and apparently the safest med for prangnancy is Sertraline, so I am at the changing phase right now. I am taking the old med, plus Sertraline (staring with thelowest dose), so that gradually the old med can get replaced by Sertraline.

Happy to hear that. That motivates to get better to have kids, when I hear ppl are happy with their kids. Since 1 and a half years ago, that I decided to have kids, my panic attacks statred and I am postponing it sonce then.

Do you mean Prozac was THE ONLY med u took during ur pregnancy? No SSRI or other antidepredsions?

Can I possibly ask, if you had a normal pregnancy withOUT any attacks... I really dont want to get stressed during the pregnancy for the baby...

I only took Prozac biting my pregnancy with no panic attacks ! The anxiety was still there but it did help! Then I took Prozac after my pregnancy and for some reason it caused BAD panic attacks so now I'm in zoloft
