Week 8 blip?

Hi all.

Hope your all enjoying your Friday!

I've been on 50mg Sertraline for Anxiety/Depression,this is now the end of week 8.

Like everyone else I had a terrible time of it week 1&2 with side affects...week 3 it improves & so on.

I felt by the end of week 7 it was working wanders & the side affects were minimal & bearable, although It has given me insomnia from the beginning that won't shift! The last 3 days I have been slowly going backwards, negative thoughts & completely exhausted,is it just a blip & will it continue-can anyone relate to this?

I'm going to go to the doctor on Monday & see about increasing the dose to maybe 100mg but I'm worried it will set me back another 8weeks??

I can see the benefits from it overall,I'm not trapped in the shell I was in to begin with but I feel I could do with a little more help.

Thanks Colin

Hi Colin, I'm feeling the same but at week 6. I was doing so well the last 2 weeks then the last 3 days I'm so tired and feel so nervous and crappy thoughts back again! I'm hoping it passes again. I was thinking the same about upping dosage but don't want to go through all the terrible side effects again. I'm on 50mg for 5 weeks as the first week was 25mg.

    Thanks for your replies.

I'm really hoping it will level out again as I was definitely seeing the benefits from it. I'm thinking maybe an increase in dosage could be the answer,I'm just worried about going through what I can only describe as hell again adapting to it?

Hi colin. I had a blip after about 4 weeks on 50mg. (Had been on 25mg for about 5 weeks before that). After another 3 weeks my dose was increased to 100mg. I'm now another 4 weeks in and feeling much better. I had no difficulty adjusting to the dose and over the last week I am even sleeping a bit better. I have had advice from this forum and like others have said the medication is just a crutch . Have you tried any other therapy?

      Hi

That's good to hear it has levelled out for you. I am going to look into CBT,the problem I have is I don't live in the UK anymore so finding an English speaking therapist at a reasonable price is the issue, but from what I have read it would be well worth it whatever the price? Keep me updated on your progress as I can relate to your situation. Thanks Colin

I remember someone on here recommended a cbt book by Dr Stephen briers but haven't read it myself.

    Hi Colin

I was on 50mg for about 4 weeks and still felt terrible, so anxious and depressed. I went back to doctor and she suggested going up to 100 mg. I have done that this week and the anxiety is definately better but still feel a bit low, not all the time but sometimes during the day I get that awful feeling that I just won't feel happy again.

Hopefully you can talk to your doctor about increasing the dose, I don't feel the side effects were as marked as when I first started taking Sertraline.

I wish you luck and keep using this forum cause it helps to chat to like minded people.
