Weight...

Hello everyone. Can gallbladder problems cause you to lose weight quite quickly even if your managing to eat relatively normally? Possibly due to not being able to digest any fat properly?

    Hi Heather,

I've lost a stone in two weeks, and I still seem to be losing weight even though I am pretty much eating normally now. I assume that will start to even out soon. I know a lot of people have mal absorption issues afterwards, so I'm taking a lot of vitamins for the time being just in case I have issues down the line with not being able to absorb enough vitamins etc. When did you have yours taken out?

Ah I see, I cant say I ever had anything like that before the operation. It's always worth getting these things checked out. Although, now that I think about it, three weeks before I did start losing weight, but I know that's because I started avoiding any kind of food that would cause me pain and that was always high fat food. Are you unconsciously avoiding certain foods maybe?

Know the oppposite it causes you to gain weight unless you're not eating enough go see the doctor make sure you have nothing else when the body can't Digest all the fat is being absorbed by the intestines which cause you to gain even more weight

Despite eating lower fat I didn’t actually lose any weight. Clearly wasn’t eating too much fat to begin with. My doctor told me to eat plenty carbs and protein though. My best mate actually lost about 4 stone in 10 months though! She had just given birth as well so was partly baby weight. She totally cut down on fat and the weight literally dropped off. So although she was eating the same amount the fat content was a lot lower. Maybe worth getting bloods done to make sure you don’t have a vitamin deficiency? xx

Hi Heather, generally gallbladder issues will cause you to loose weight as people tend to cut down or out of fat in their diet. I lost a stone and a half which for me was alot. Some people loose alot very quickly especially if they are over weight where as mine was more gradual but started off being 2-3 pounds a week until it started to lessen. It all depends on what you are able to eat with gallbladder issues.

If you're not seeing a doctor I suggest you go and see someone as any sudden loss in weight should be looked into so they can do some tests.

    Keep me updated. Take care.

Heather, have you found anything else out? I've been losing weight quite rapidly too and was just yesterday diagnosed with gallstones. I'm not sure if that's a possible side effect or not.
