Hello dear people .....  I have a question about the excess weight I put on -

I am 8 weeks post op today after R THR ...I started to gain weight before surgery due to lack of excercise - I started Physical Therapy prior surgery to get fit and pehaps lose weight - unfortunately this back fired and somehow I ended up in more pain and more restriction in movement.

I know that the additional kilos (15!!!!) are definitely not good to carry with me while healing ....my appetite is so-so - not really hungry, at times nauseated .. I live alone, cook my own meals ... go on my walks, twice a day, moderate excercises as I am still experiencing pain in groin and thighs, especially the the non-operated leg !

I am taking pain meds and have been taken them also prior surgery - Weigth gain is one of the side effects ... catch 22 ...

I have heard stories of people who had THR and lost like 25 pounds within the first 2 months ....

I love to hear from you ....

feeling fluffy and not.liking it so much

    Hi

I am 3 weeks post surgery and like you was alarmed St the weight gain post op. I weighed 3kg more post op I am glad to report that now I am off the medication and moving around a lot more I am almost back to the weight I was pre op.

I think you are right the procedure the meds and the lack of mobility needs to be taken into consideration.

Continue doing what you are doing and I'm confident this will happen. Everyone is different in terms of how quick. Best wishes.

what is the weight of the average implant. It obviously cannot account for all weight gain post op, but perhaps a kilo or so?

      Hi Maggie

I asked my consultant how much the hip prothesis weighed and he said no more than the chunk of bone they've removed, I specifically asked as I wanted to know if I'd put on weight or it was the new joint.

Hi Renee, please dont be despondent. I feel like I have eaten very little but seem to have put some back on. It is demoralising.....but you are in recovery and we need to heal. I have been pondering this morning.....maybe the hippy thing weighs a fair bit, ever hopeful.lols xx

    Hi Renee

I put on a stone after my op and at 15 weeks I am beginning to !ose it, I will lose it eventually, so I'm not worried about it, just eating less now its summer and I'm getting about more, less sitting. I was gardening yesterday, aarrgghhh did I ache but hopefully that with the thorough cleaning of the house the day before will help me lose a few pounds more lol !
