Weight gain

hi guys hope every one is as well as we can be with this pmr. I am currently on 10mgs of pred having dropped from 15mg after 3 weeks and so far no pain or stiffness , I have been on this dose for 13 days and I have noticed the sweating isn't too bad but the lack of sleep still the same, I have been awake since 3am today so my brain is definitely feeling foggy today. The main thing I am worried about at the minute is the weight gain I have struggled over the last few years with my weight it is an on going problem but I have put on quite a bit since starting pred as I am constantly hungry and never seem to feel full, I am a lot more active since starting the pred as I am able to do so much more but because I don't sleep I am up longer so eat more , I need your advice my friends as this is starting to get me down .

thanks best wishes to you all Molly

Look up the Paleo diet. They even have Paleo cookbooks. My son said he couldn't keep weight on when he was on it. It's sort of a caveman diet. You eat mostly protein.

I feel the paleo leaves out things on the basis of "they didn't have that then so man isn't meant to eat it..." and that leads to throwing out the baby with the bathwater. You can have too much protein too.

Good news on the successful dose reduction Molly. Yes, the weight gain is very much foremost in most if not all peoples minds. And the hunger is humongously terrifying. I had already gained weight from being inactive because of pain and stiffness, now exacerbated by the pred. Like you, I am usually awake in the early hours and apart from the obligatory loo visit, it's soooo hard to stay away from the kitchen. As people comment the evenings are the worst. I am cutting back on carbs drastically too. I'm not someone who personally advocates a complete abstention from any one food group unless of course you have an allergy but that's just me, so the very small amount I am eating are of a complex type. Oh how I long for a huge chunk of white bread slathered with peanut butter. But instead I now have celery sticks with unsweetened peanut butter on instead. There's loads of stuff on the web about low or carb free foods and snacks.  It's hard, yet more  reading and calculating but it seems to be helping, albeit slowly. I drink copious amounts of caffeine free green tea, high in antioxidants, potassium, magnesium and it helps with fluid retention. The dark chocolate thing is a def yes yes. It's impossible to eat more than a couple of squares and so I treat myself to luxury flavoured bars. Lime and ginger being my fav. And I keep telling myself " doesn't matter if you eat carbs or no carbs you're still going to feel the hunger so you might as well have a stick of celery or a cup of tea"  On the plus side, we are going to come out of the other end of all this super duper healthy with fantastic eating habits. In the meantime, good luck with everything. You will get there....
