Hi! I was on Paxil for 10 years and experienced A LOT of weight gain. When I went off 5 years ago, I lost all the extra weight. I’ve been on Sertraline for 5 months and was very nervous about weight gain so I was very proactive. I  started exercising regularly and eating better when I started.  I have lost 10 pounds. So I would say it’s probably weight neutral for me. Since my wedding is coming up and I’ve been more motivated to be active, I’ve been able to lose weight.

Also I’m very curvy and short so if I am not vigilant I become overweight easily. So I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to lose on Zoloft!

      OCDandme223,

      Congratulation o your coming wedding.

That’s a very good reason to take control of your weight and also your health in general.

I never knew SSRI could cause weight gain I thought it was the older Antidepressent example Amtripline

Also another reason some people gain weight is because they Start to feel better I assume.

      Keep up.

      God bless,

Thank you! Yes, some SSRIs do cause weight gain. I think sometimes it has to do with feeling better, but Paxil is particularly known for weight gain. It may be because it is quite sedating. Zoloft isn’t like that for me.

      Hi Ida

Is that due to the Sertaline, or diet?

Hope you feel better soon or if you already do good.

      God bless

Hi! I've lost about 10 pounds in 2 months. I think it's more of a psychological effect for me. Before Sertraline, when I was stressed I was eating and did not realize when I had enough. Nowadays it's easier to cont

Hi, massive weight gain for me. I’ve been on sertraline for 4 years and have gained 30kgs over that time. I put it down to not living off my nerves like I was previously. I was so stressed and suffered terribly with anxiety and depression before treatment that I was actually underweight. However after having a complete nervous breakdown I was put on sertraline & now I’m the total opposite, my anxiety is under control, I sleep and I have an appetite, so the weight gain was inevitable sad my Dr asks me would I prefer to be thin and miserable or fat and happy? Well after 4 years of not being able to look at myself in the mirror then the first one is starting to look appealing again.
