Weight gain after laporoscopic oopherectomy.

I had laporoscopic surgery 3 weeks ago now to remove my left ovary and Fallopian tube along with a 7cm dermoid cyst , also a cystectomy on my right ovary.  After surgery I had loss of appetite for a couple of days and then it returned to normal . I haven't actually weighed myself but I can tell my clothes I have gained so much weight . I can't fasten my jeans at all !  All the weight seems to be on my stomach. Is this normal after surgery ?  Has anyone else experienced this and if so how long before you return back to normal?

Hi Jane, it's most likely to be swelling from the surgery. It takes a few weeks to subside while you are healing inside your abdomen. If you have pain/discomfort try calling the hospital clinic or consultant's secretary and ask for advice. My swelling took some time to go down but I had healed externally in about 3 weeks. (Same op as you)!  X rolleyes

Thanks Pollyanna , my stitches came out a few days ago and all looks fine there. I wouldn't say I get pain internally but as the day goes on my stomach gets quite tender . Did you experience this . I still have a week off work so hoping it'll be better then and I can fit in my uniform pants 😂

Just keep resting but walk around sometimes as it helps to keep your muscles strong after surgery. If you don't feel ready for work yet I would ask for more time off from your GP. I was told about 6 weeks before I was fairly normal but took longer. The tenderness will go on for some time yet as you are healing inside where they cut through the abdomen and from the removal of ovaries. rolleyes
