Weight gain & weakness in legs

Hi all, have just been reading various comments on site and have found it a great comfort to see that many more of you have put on weight since being diagnosed with overactive thyroid like me. I am a lady of 49 (next week) and gave up smoking a year ago. After getting over the initial cravings I noticed that I wasn't feeling any better for giving up and after seeing my doctor a couple of months later was diagnosed with overactive thyroid just before easter. Although I've never been exactly slim I have now piled on 2 1/2 stone in the last year and also find it hard to control the muscles in my legs. Since having this illness I would say I have lost at least half the control I had over my legs. ie. I can barely climb up stairs, when I sit down I just flop down without being able to sit down in a controlled way, if I try to squat down I just fall over and cannot get up without hoisting myself up with my hands. I have had this for over six months now - has anyone else had this experience ?

I haven't lost any weight at all. I'm a big girl anyway and when I tell people what I have they don't believe me because they don't expect to see someone with hyperthyroidism carrying excess weight.
I gave up smoking in November 06 and starting feeling unwell in December 06, I had no idea what was causing the problem, I just thought that I was getting the toxins out of my system. I now think that giving up smoking was possibly the trigger. I'm still glad I don't smoke. Maybe its my bods way of telling me off for smoking all those years!
