Weight gain and adverse reaction to stopping citalopram

I was prescribed 10mg of citalopram by my GP. I started gaining weight straight away. I was 9 stone before I took the drug and i exercise and eat healthy so I knew it was the drug causing the weight gain. I was advised by my GP to stop taking the drug as I had gained 8lbs in a few months and nothing would shift the weight and I could not tolerate this weight gain. I stopped the drug and had a massive weight gain of over a stone in the following weeks. I exercise 2 hours per day, run marathons, weight train etc. I eat less than 1000 calories per day and the weight will not shift. My GP put me back on the drug to try to relieve the symptoms but this did not work. I have been to see a plastic surgeon to see about surgery on my huge flabby stomach, unfortunately I have been advised that the fat is intra abdominal and surgery is now not an option. I have been told that i am at risk of cancer and heart disease due to this fat! My pharmacist has reported this adverse reaction to the yellow card scheme. There has only been one other report of this! Could I ask you all to PLEASE REPORT THIS ADVERSE REACTION TO THE YELLOW CARD SCHEME. Yellow card scheme acts as an early warning system for the identification of previously unrecognised suspected adverse reactions - https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk
