HI i was diagnose with Graves recently (much to my GP's disbelief) and have been put on 20mg carbimazole daily for 6 weeks until my blood ttest next week. For 2 years i have been searching for a solution to all the symptoms i was displaying. 3 x GP's diagnosed me with depression and the Gynecologist thought i was a hypochondriac!! i went through a divorce and had a tubal-ligation after my divorce(3-4yrs ago). I suffered from horrific panic attacks (associated i thought with the divorce) and depression. In the most recent 2 yrs i have had abnormal mentral periods (from heavy to almost nothing), now weight gain in the past 10months (up to 12kg); ive always been a very petite small woman and have no energy at all. Some days i am so completely exhausted that i cannot move. i have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) for 20 years ans this grave seems to be completely making it worse than ever, (always constipated!!). sad

Overall i said to the Specialist, i feel as if im pregnant!! skin is horrible, strange movement in the tummy, weight gain, short light periods, cysts (large pimples) under the skin of my face, eyes are now getting blurry more often, hayfever is shocking, skin takes forever to heal and always tired (when normally i have heaps of energy). I feel disinterested in life (even when i have 2 great kids and a fantastic supportive partner). I am drained and hoping that the meds kick in soon and help.

Will these meds make me put on more weight? will the tiredness improve and will my periods finally start going again????

Thanks guys and appeiate reading the blog i came across[/color:f8680b0629][/size:f8680b0629]

Was diagnosed in March this year after complaining to GP of been tired all time, thought I was pre-menopause being 46yrs old. Was shocked to be given this diagnosis, but when reading symptoms a lot started to add up. Periods were lighter when I used to complain to GP of heavy ones. Was depressed like yourself even though 2 lovely children and lovely husband, felt there was nothing worth living any more for, nothing interested me. Was so tired but could not sleep, very irritable and restless. Husband called me the poisoned dwarf as he said I used to be lovely but had become aggressive. Put all this down to PMT and age. Also had what was diagnosed as Psoriasis on hands and feet, since been on Carbimazole 40mg per day, this has cleared up. Been on this since March, felt lot better at first but now beginning to feel depressed again and tired all the time, could sleep for England, feel as though all I do is sleep. Go to work 8am till 1pm then come home and sleep till 4.30pm or so. Then go to bed at around 10pm. Life is one long sleep, wasting away. Also slight weight gain, only 5ft so cant afford to be too fat. Dreading been put on thyroxin as well which should be any time now. But hoping this will stop the constant sleeping.

Also periods have returned with a vengeance, very heavy again which makes me even more drained than normal. Eyes still ache, constantly rubbing them. Feel very depressed, blame weather, age and rising costs of everything but maybe has something to do with condition, I do not know. Keep waiting to feel good again, when this will be I do not know. Also my 29yr old daughter has just been diagnosed as well, she has been trying to conceive for the last 3yrs with no success, she has had 6 months of assisted conception and was just about to have IVF after waiting 18months only to find she had this which would explain the infertility. Pitty they did not do a TFT a year ago. I had noticed that she was losing weight, warm all the time which was not like her and her periods had gone from heavy to almost none existent. I think this should have been picked up on, it was only when I noticed the symptoms because I have the condition that I forced her to have a blood test at the doctors, when I mentioned it to the doctor I was told it would probably be normal as though I was being paranoid. But I was proved right unfortunately and now she has had to put the IVF on hold and started on Carbimazole. Also her eyes have started to protrude a bit and she is paranoid about this. So all this is depressing me as well, feel as though it is all my fault.

Hi Sussie 46, I dont really know where to post this, so looked up the pmt section ....dont know where to go. Maybe you could help me out here.....

Every month, before I get my period, I develop a large lump in my right breast and it seems to be getting bigger each time I get this. It clears once I have had my period. I also get very moody and sleepy before it,,, and actually loose my ability to string sentences together, to concentrate, to focus on anything, and then this makes me angry. This alongside the normal period pain that I get, is worrying me.

My aunt died of breast cancer at a young age and I am worried that could be the onset of it for me...am I just being paranoid.

Just a note here to yourself. I hope things start to get better for you asap. Woman just seem to have to put up with so much, or is it that men just dont complain?
