Weight gain - Carbimazole?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I am now in the 'normal range' after a very high overactive thyroid which was diagnosed last November. I am taking 5mg Carbimazole once a day. After losing initial weight due to the overactive throid and then putting it back on as my thyroid improved, I am now finding it VERY difficult to lose weight. Could this be due to the Carbimazole? Has anyone else experienced this? I am walking every day and cycling, but as anyone knows who has experienced hyperthyroidism, your muscles take ages to recover and any aerobic exercise is exhausting and I get worn out very quickly. I was fit before all this happened! Help and tips please. sad

    Hi Kaye,

Just realised I have piled on nearly 2 kg weight since I started taking Carbimazole 7 weeks ago. It must be a common side effect of the medication. I am due to see my specialist next week and will definitely have a chat with him. Good luck with the exercises. I am yet to start walking. Still feeling generalized muscle weakness.
