Weight gain in 10 days!!

Posted , 13 users are following.

After struggling to lose nearly 3 stone before my op which I had 10 days ago.

I can't believe I've put on nearly 10 lbs in the 10 days since my op, I was so pleased with the op itself in that the pain of arthritis has gone from one side of me.

Now stupidly I've been in floods of tears all morning over 10 lbs in weight.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi . I feel like the good year blimp. The last year I've put on so much weight due to not being very mobile. None since the op. As soon as you get more mobile. It will drop off you.. alot if that extra weight could be fluid. Well done on the weight loss before your op.

Yes I think it happens to everyone dalmation, it's because of the inactivity. I have recently joined slimming world to try and get rid of some of mine smile

Hey Dalmatian. It is still early days for you. I wouldn't be too upset, as some if not most of the weight is due to swelling, the extra fluid in your body. Some also say that a few pounds can be from the new hardware that is also in your body. Give it time, as I'm sure much of this will resolve. Hugs to you, your body has been through a lot of trauma and needs time to heal.

I was always very active but hip stopped that so did put weight on while waiting for my left hip to be done, which was Sept last year. During my recovery I put more on , I did get a bit despressed about it but I did eat to much considering I wasn't very mobile

    .

As time went on I became more active cut down on the extra food I didn't need and lost some weight felt so much better. Then decided to have the right hip done so here I am a year later 2 weeks post op asking people very kindly not to bring me chocolates eating smaller meals drinking loads of water.

I still know the clothes I was wearing 3 weeks ago are going to be tighter but there are worse things that can happen.

You will lose weight once you are able to be more active, 10 weeks is still very early. In a couple of months you will be able to do so much more than you can now.

Because you reconigse you've put weight on that's half the battle. I joined a gym did gentle exercise even pilates which not really my thing. If you don't like gyms etc think of something to do , after all you have a new hip so the future is bright.

Don't worry give yourself a break.

    Best wishes

      Really!

Before my op we were shown examples of the stainless steel inserts and the plastic cup thing they slot into.  We passed them round and they didn't seem more than a few ounces. Then there's a whole chunk of  bone removed during the op.

I've put on about half a stone since my operation 6 months ago and can't seem to lose it.

Your post cheered me up no end.

Don't let this get you down. You did an amazing job losing alll that weight pre-surgery and it's not all lost. I think that there are a couple of factors that must explain it. As Sassybees says, some of the weight will be the implant itself, plus weight retention - my legs are HUGE! To compare like with like, the difference between my weigh in at admission for surgery and another on day 5 was 5 kilos. I was really shocked, but then realised that it was not normal weight gain = for one thing, I ate very little in those 5 days. I''m sure this must be the explanation.

    Hi dalmation,

Yes, we are all familiar with this. I had got to Goal weight with Weight Watchers early this year but since then I've had two ops for removal of metal and THR and have gone up and up.

I have made a pact with myself that I will go back to Weight Watchers as soon as I am mobile and driving again. Also rejoin my Aquarobics class.

No chance of weight loss at the moment as I am not moving fast enough to burn even half a calorie!

Try not to let it bug you. There are worse things than a bit of extra body weight.

    Hugs

I was shocked after I came home from my surgery that I had gained weight!  I couldn't eat the 3 days I was in the hospital.  The weight stubbornly stayed on for a couple of weeks.  My husband kept insisting it was water weight.  Turns out he was right.  The weight came off almost suddenly when I began to shed the water.  Give it a bit more time.

Everyone is right. Don't be upset over 10llbs. It will come off again when you get more mobile. My gp wanted me to get on the scales last week. I told him no chance until my 2nd hip was done and I could exercise again. He was the one who told me if I lost weight the pain would go. The surgeon was appalled and said the pain was not due to weight but bilateral dysplasia. I thought only labradors got that!!

Anyway the other thing is the rollercoaster of emotions after a hip op. Tomorrow is another day and hopefully you will feel different. I was in tears because I couldn't put my socks on one day. Next day no probs. Ups and downs for a few weeks

    Take care

If the food in your hospial was as good as in this one, i am not surprised, hoapital food is not meant to taste that good

That is why I always put salt on for taste or some one brings things in for me. The same menu say in day out soon gets old.

Thank goodness for domino pizza and hungry house app. cheesygrin
