I don't know the answer, but have just started on a Low Carb diet, only one week so far, but seems to be working. I have put on a stone in weight since having Polymyalgia 3 years ago.

Skip all the "white" carbs - especially wheat and sweets. Some people say skip all carbs, even root vegetables. Personally I think that leaves you open to some nutritional deficiencies. But I think stopping eating grains is a good start, and only a healthy amount of fruit, healthiest are berries, and nothing with added sugar. And also skip the artificial sweeteners. Alcohol also adds a surprising amount of calories but we all be limiting alcohol consumption to a minimum anyway while on any kind of medicine.
If you can stand it, focus on vegetables - fill up on salad!
And make sure to continue to eat healthy oils, like olive oil, and protein.

Low carb is one of the best ways of avoiding weight gain and reducing the risk of developing steroid induced diabetes - which is very real.
How low carb depends on the person - to lose weight I have to get down to IRO 20g carbs a day, maintaining my weight is easier.

is easy to use to see what foods are better and what not so good - fruit may be healthy but it can hide a LOT of carbs! You don't need to join it - the information is free and makes it easy to adjust within your normal household catering.

I suggest giving up ultra-refined foods – for both health and weight management.
