Hi there. This is my first post!!

I have been diagnosed as having an underactive Throid and have been given 50mg daily dose of medicine. Will my weight decrease and how quickly will it come off?

smile Don't ever give up - I was eventually diagnosed in 2003 after three years of hell. My original high TSH reading was overlooked and despite many visits to my GP with 'tired all the time' and 'sore throats', nothing was done. It has taken me years to feel right. My saviour was a Professor Skinner who has a private practice in Moseley, Birmingham. He has literally saved my life. You can read about him on the Thyroid UK website. I am continually battling to keep my medication at a level at which I can function as a human being. I no longer go to sleep at the slightest opportunity (even in the middle of a conversation), I can excercise, I only have aches and pains from the gym or golf not just waking up! I have regained my libido - the loss of that almost lost my marriage. Stick with it, try to make notes to take to the doctor, you won't always feel well enough to fight for your rights. Take care.

Hi - the initial visit is expensive - £160 and subsequent visits £90. Once you are stabilised you will only need annual visits hopefully. I know its expensive but I would have paid anything to get myself sorted out. His phone number is 0121 449 8895 - they are really friendly and helpful. Let me know how you go on. By the way have you ever read 'Tears behind closed doors' by Diana Holmes - she was misdiagnosed for 23 years and confined to a wheelchair before she found Gordon Skinnersmile

Hi - yes she did - imagine being misdiagnosed for 23 years - dreadful. The lady in question made a good recovery once she began to be treated by Dr Skinner and has been very active in trying to get things changed i.e. going to Parliament, etc. Please keep in touch and let me know what you decide to do. Regards, Val
