Weight loss

Hi ladies... I'm wondering has any of you had weight loss while in perimenopause ?

The list says weight gain, but I seem to be losing weight.. I had my labs checked and everything is good. Also going to see a gastroenterologist to make sure nothing else is going on. My appetite is ok, I've modified my eating habits, but even doing so, I'm concerned with the weight loss..

Thanks for listening 😊

yes I lost about 20lbs when I first started having peri symptoms. I was an average weight person so losing 20lbs did scare me at first, but I think it was all the anxiety, loss of appetite and nausea that contributed to my sudden weight loss. After about a year, I pretty much gained back all the weight I lost. If everything cleared with doctor then try not to worry about it too much because that only makes it worse. Eat small meals frequently, smoothies, snacks throughout the day. It does get better πŸ˜ƒ. Take care.

Hi, yes me too. When peri first hit due to anxiety. I literally would forget to eat or wouldn't feel hungry. As my anxiety lowered my appetite started to return but, it took time. I was like that for several months. Just be mindful that you have to eat. Write a note if you need to remind yourself. Ridiculous but, it would have helped me at that time. I was not mindful of that when this hit at that time. It's good that your reaching out on this site. Try to each protein during each meal. 3 small meals a day will keep your energy levels up. I hope you feel better!

I gained a ton of weight first, but then like these other ladies, I lost a lot in the past few months from anxiety which was a good thing since I had gained so much and now can finally fit back into my pants. So think both, a gain or loss are normal when your hormones are going crazy and the anxiety can make you eat more or less.

    Hi Trina,

I'm 55 years old and post menopausal. I too lost a lot of weight in peri menopause, I was convinced I had a fatal illness the Dr.'s were overlooking. I adore my Gynecologist, although he told me time & again I am not losing weight because of my peri menopause. In my case I WAS losing weight from peri menopause-all of the changes were causing me great anxiety which was beyond anything I had ever experienced-my body was betraying me, therefore weight loss.

I truly had no appetite & had to be forced to eat by my husband. I did not want to go anywhere because I looked too skinny. It was a very rough time, I could not get out of my head and it affected every part of my life. Now my appetite is not what it used to be, however it is easier to eat then 2, 3 years ago.

I wish I knew about this forum back then, perhaps I would not have become so carried away every single day, I may have felt more balanced because I was not

alone. My husband & I have a business & I know I could not have been involved while living in a peri menopausal world. Presently, I am an active part of our company & thinking about something besides myself has kind of saved me. I try to take it day by day & do my best not to project out.

I'm learning this life goes so fast & I have to grab hold of it and LIVE...

    Always here for you. XO

Hi Andrea, I can relate about the weight loss and feeling like you look too skinny. I don't want pictures or videos of me, I don't even like my husband looking at me or even feel like being intimate. I have lost 30 or more pounds and I am 5'7" so not a good look to be thin and gaunt, especially in the face. I do hope and pray that I will eventually gain some weight back.

Thank you wonderful ladies for replying and sharing your experiences. I'm really just hoping all of this is hormonal. You have truly encouraged me, and eased my anxious thoughts.

Oh gosh Trina I just posted the same question and then went searching. I have lost 8 lbs (I only weighed 126 so that is alot for me) within the last month or two (not really sure the amount of time but noticed my stomach getting flat again). I am a constant worrier so this has me now convinced that something sinister is going on. I have loads of gut issues but I do eat regularly so nothing like that has changed. My anxiety is at an all time high the last few days and then I decided to weigh myself this morning and now worrying about this. I have moved and don't have a primary care here and can't go back home to my pcp right now.

The good news is the responses you have received have at least put my mind a bit at ease...if that is even possible πŸ˜ƒ

Will be so glad when this journey has come and gone.

I agree this forum definitely helps calm my mind. These hormones are making me so anxious about everything. My mind always takes me to the WORST case scenario..

Just been praying for better days..

I wonder if low estrogen ladies lose weight

    and low progesterone ladies gain.

    any thoughts?

I did more blood work on hormones today and the hormone specialist told me that my last hormone test done last year around this time levels were at post menopause. All of my hormones tested real low. I've lost weight too and my weigh today showed I lost 2 more pounds within a month. ( which I already knew because I had the flu). I cried while waiting in the exam room. I just want the weight loss to stop. It does scare me. I'm having gut issues, food allergies, etc. So difficult to eat what I want and my food does me no good. Dr said I need to get on something because the hormones will not increase, once low they are gone unless I replace them. I tried them but they seem to make my symptoms worse.
