Hi, I'd really like some help, I started taking quietiapine 200mgs when I was 6 months pregnant, I gained 3bs in 3 months, I put it down to being pregnant but I had my baby 5 months ago, my partner is a personal trainer and I have been eating very healthy, no carbs or sugar and do at least 30 mins cardio per day with 3 weight training sessions per week, and my weight has not budged even 1lb in 4 months of training, has anyone else had this experience of not losing ANY weight while eating well and excersizing??please help I'm going insane!

Hi Carra, congratulations on the birth of your baby x I started quetiapine in May and to date have put on 4lbs in weight which i have struggled with as having lost weight with weightwatchers 2yrs ago and kept it off can feel the effect with clothes. However,I have benefitted from taking quetiapine and lithium so battled the pro's/cons of the weight gain a few weeks ago. When i thought about it i decided it was the sedative effect of the drug that was making me sluggish and having had 7 months off sick realised my daily routine had lapsed (been back @ work 4 wks now)and i had been eating more even though i'd have disputed that !!!! So I'm on an exercise bike 15mins a day cos thats doable for me and i'm loosley doing weightwatchers measuring. To date no significant weightloss but my shape must be changing cos jeans feel better BUT do you know what i'm not stressing about it and i think thats the key I urge you enjoy your new baby and do whatever makes you feel good,my daughter is 18 now and i realise my mental health ruled her childhood. We have a fab relationship but those yrs went in a flash.Best Wishes

Hi, bith my partner and I have experience the same thing. When I started taking quietiapine (200mg) I also put on alot of weight. But it was also my fault as I could not stop snacking before I went to bed. If I can stop snacking I will losse alot of weight. Your diet sounds great. We have also been on a serious diet and I have only lost 2 lbs in 5 months. No to very low carbs, no sugar, good source of protein, fish, even fatty fish, lean meat, skinless chicke3n, and lots of veg and fruit with flesh on. There is no more you can do, quietiapine saved my life, so I have accepted that even if I watch my diet I will always be alittle heavy, but not nearly as heavy if I didnt watch my diet. Good luck

Thanks for your comments, yes I'm very suspicious about this medication, I've been on it for about 9 months and instantly gained weight, the problem is I have a rigorous training programme, my parter (personal trainer) trains me like he would a man I am very fit , there has been no loss of fat what so ever, I'm also only 25 and it is completely baffling that I have lost nothing at all in 4 months of training 6 days per week,I have always been fit not necessarily been a good water but I never eighed more that 8 stone in my life  I'm going to speak to my do for to come off it, they diagnosed me as bi polar, but to be honest I am a recovering addict 2 years clean and they associated my drug taking with being bi polar but I think that is just what most people who have drug problems are like, I'm going to come off it and see how I cope, and what happens re weight loss, it's making me feel just as bad being over weight than before I started taking it.
