Weight loss when I have a flare up

Has anyone dealt with this problem? I have steadily been losing weight, even on the prednisone. I would like to start putting on weight, but cannot seem to find foods that "stick to the bones". Any ideas. Seems like when I eat too much sugar, dairy or wheat it flares up the PMR. I am very frustrated and just want to get on a few pounds and eat normal again.

I, too, have been steadily losing weight, since PMR. Don't know what it is, the disease or the pred. But I can't believe the scale, (this is at the clinic), when it says 115, and 112, when all my life, I've been a "big boned gal". I also have osteoporosis, so I am thinking if my bones are getting hollow, that could cause some weight loss too. I try to get three healthy meal down a day, including a shake with whole milk, a banana, strawberries, cocoa, collagen power, and ice cream.
I guess I am looking for the happy medium.

I could have written this exact message. Are you starting to put on weight? When were you diagnosed? I was thinking about doing a shake and you have inspired me. Thank you

I was diagnosed in the winter of 2017. Started at 20 mg of pred, have reduced to 3.5 mg. Just like AllyCD, it is barely enough, but I am managing, so far. The weight is stable now at 118. I can live with that. Also, my hair has stopped falling out.
BTW, I used to wish, when I was a kid, that I would be "ordered", to eat as much ice cream as I could manage, and wouldn't that be a wonderful life. I guess, sometimes, it is true, about what we wish for.

If 1/2mg more makes life better there is no virtue in being at a dose that is barely enough.

My experience with PMR over the last six years has taught me that insufficient pred dosage consistently resulted in loss of appetite, adrenal deficiency and weight loss.
A little extra pred in the short term (in my case just a fraction of 1mg, as I currently take only 1.5mg/day) seems to fix any of the above three symptoms (as well as joint pain) that creep back into my life.
Currently still at a lower weight than when I started, 147lb vs. 155lb, but considerably up from a low of 137lb and I am intermittently feeling young again. I am currently making some effort to gain a bit of added muscle mass to my 5'9" frame.
And I keep windows cracked year-round as I have read of correlation between "indoor air" and autoimmune conditions. I've always seemed to have fewer pmr symptoms when I spent more hours outside each day.

Dear Dan38655, It is such a relief to hear from people like you. I do not feel alone and it gives me hope to hear your story. I agree with the indoor air and all the shelter in place - now that I can sit outside a little seems to make a big difference.
What kind of diet do you follow?
Thank you
