Weightloss Stopped

Hi guys,

Haven't posted in here for a while, hoping you can offer some support.

Been on the blueys for nearly a year. At the start the weight fell off, I felt so amazing! My appetite had really shrunk, a typical dinner for me would be a grilled chicken breast with a plain baked potato, or a couple of pitta breads warmed with some brown sauce on them, rice, cous cous etc. I wasn't doing any exercise, didn't really need to since it was falling off so quickly.

I should probably mention I have Hypothyroidism too, this makes it much harder to lose weight as the thyroid is slowing my metabolisim down.

After the weight seemed to stop coming off I stopped taking the blueys. Not intentionally, I just kept forgetting. At this point, I'd lost 2 stone, over about 6 months.

I wasn't taking any from about September, through to early January this year. I put on nearly half a stone in that time, which I found hard to get my head around as I'd stayed to eating really low fat food, nothing above 5% fat. Went back on the tablets early Jan, lost a few pounds (basically everything I'd put on), but can't seem to get any new ground on it. I'm basically 19 stone now, and can't seem to lose any more. I've done a bit more exercise, I know I could do more. I do have a very active job now though, since November. I work in a hospital in theatres, so I'm on my feet all day running around, I thought this would really help, but it doesn't seem to have done much other than give me sore knees.

If I'm honest with myself, my portions could be smaller, and I could eat less carbs, most of my meals seem to contain a high proportion of carbs at the moment, so I know I could rectify that. And I could cut down on my sugar intake, I need to get a kick someway, and the odd sweet treat has been my vice, I simply can't face cutting everything enjoyable out.

Any advice you have I'd be really greatful for as I'm getting quite desperate now.

Thanks,

Fand

what about drinking green tea to speed up your metabolism? i started having 1 cup each morning and after a week i uped it to 2 cups, 1 morning and 1 evening, personally i have green tea with lemon which i think tastes nicer than plain green tea, its been 3 weeks since i started the tea and i feel better and it seems to have kick started my weight loss which plateaued after i had lost 2st.

what sort of exercise do u do if u dont mind me asking?

Well, like I mentioned I'm getting more exercise with the job as it's quite physical.

I like to think I'm doing a decent amount of exercise, but in reality I'm not... I did Davina's DVD last week, maybe the week before, and that was the last. I'm going to do My Fitness Coach tomorrow, and try to do that like 4 nights a week, it's just hard with the hours I work (10 hour days - 8am - 6pm), and as its physical I'm usually knackered by the time I come home and even if I cook as soon as I get home, I'm often not done and finished by 8pm, just doesn't leave much time for me.

i know where you're coming from, i am constantly on my feet, moving n handling, running about etc, is something like swimming an option for you? swimming is kind on joints, good cardio exercise which isnt overly tiring

as your thyroid is slowing your metabolism down is there something your Dr could give you to up it again ?

I really don't have any advice but to say if things are difficult then personally I would go see your gp/nurse for some advice and encouragement but book weekly appts then fortnightly ones until you feel you are on track.

Swimming is a no-no I'm afraid, far too low self-confidence about my body to show that much of it off :p

Re the Thyroid, I am on Levothyroxine to help balance the hormone deficiency, but they still haven't got the levels right, it's a very gradual process.

Umm that's strange, I didn't put anything random or offencive in there, no website links or anything... bizarre...

Moderator consideration - I got that on an earlier post and all I mentioned was not finding much info on the internet.

as for the weight loss I really hope the additional exercise kicks starts it off to drop again
