Weird Lump on Tongue

Posted , 1 user is following.

The lump is below the surface (not an inflamed taste bud). It's firm, but not hard and is on the side of my tongue in the back. It had the doctor I saw stumped. She prescribed "miracle mouthwash" and told me to come back in a week if it's still there.

-There are no signs of infection

-There are no sores in my mouth

-It hurts to use my tongue (eating, drinking, a bit while talking, etc.)

-I did not bite my tongue or otherwise receive any trauma

-My piercing is old (20 years) and I have not changed the jewelry in a while. I only take it out to clean it and didn't do that before it started

-It's been like this for 4-5 days already

Any ideas? The doctor and friends have suggested (it's not any of these things because it doesn't fit the symptoms): inflamed taste bud (it's beneath the surface and there are no signs of infection), B12 deficiency (it's localized mostly to one area of my tongue instead of being swollen all over equally), allergic reaction (it's probably lasted much too long to be an allergic reaction?), and an insect bite (not sure about this one).
