weird new possible side effects?

Hi all,

You guys are so awesome in here! I'm sorry about the upcoming TMI..I will try not to go to far in depth smile

I'm about 3 weeks in on CIT at 20 mg.. I did not wean onto it..it was 20mg boom

I'm starting to feel better but 4 days ago after dinner my stomach rumbled I got up to head to the bathroom..but didn't make it..not so lovely brown liquid down my leggs.. (embarrassing and I haven't had something like that happen since I was little)

My stomach rumbled after that but felt better...until tonight . sadly this time I wasn't home.. gas station bathroom with someone cleaning the other stalls followed by a 20 minute ride home..double yuck!

Has any one had this happen? I'm thinking about putting a call in to the Dr.. but I have an appointment in 2 weeks...just trying to see if I'm crazy or if others had this happen and then stop?

I would say it is definitely a side effects of Cit. Since I started 6 weeks ago I had some epsodes (last one was the day before yesterday). Some of our "more experienced" folks in this forum may tell us if it will really go away, because as I said it's been already 6 weeks and I still have diarrhea... it is definitely no fun. Not to mention it brings us even more anxiety since you feel insecure all the time when you leave home...

    Hi Gigachick

Oh I'm so sorry for you ..... not something you need when you're trying to get better.  It is listed as a side effect, but it's not one I've had.  Side effects usually only happen in the first few weeks, so maybe it might settle in time?  Not that you want to test it of course.  Does it happen after anything in particular has been eaten?  I know when I eat spicy food it upsets me.  I'd speak to your doctor as you can't put up with this.  Maybe it's not to do with Citalopram  and just a coincidence?  You could temporarily get some incontinence pants as at least they would help if you were caught out again - I know not ideal, but a temporary aid until you're sorted ;-)

Go see your doctor - I hope this gets sorted soon.

The only thing I can think of was that both days I ate a full meal.most days since going on Cit I only eat a little. But my hamburger was really good and I was hungry. I hate to go off this med since it's starting to work..

UT I've never had this happen until going on. Cit.

I do think I might test it at home..eat a big meal and if it happens then I know only tiny meals...

Since I have anxiety and panic attacks already..I'm thinking you have a good idea. About the pants. Not really something I thought I was going to need at 35 years old though.

Good idea. Test it at home and see how it goes.  I doubt you'll have to stop the meds, but ... if it does happen, there are plenty of SSRI's to try - each one tailored to different people.  The pants are a temporary measure ..... at least you get to try them out at 35 before you get old lol.

Kind of sound like IBS ..... but, most probably the Citalopram.

Hopemit stops soon.  Keep us posted. xxx

    Hi

I am on my second week of citalopram now at 30mg, and have bad nausea and sometimes in the morning am sick with upset stomach. Hopefully this will settle down soon. Next week I am going up to 40mg. I think it's side effects and these should go after your system gets used to it.
