Weird symptoms!

After 6 years with PMR, I still get things that baffle me.....I have in the last week or so, felt fluey, drained, low, but the worst symptom is severe dizziness,....and forgetfulness.....I know we are all getting older (I`m 66) my neck is quite stiff also, so I am baffled by...is it my neck, is it the PMR?...I am lowering (at 9.5mg) VERY slowly....I have had some dizziness this past couple of years, but this is much worse......

?I know I should probably go to my GP, and I will if it doesn't ease in a few days time, but like a lot of GP`s they tend to put everything done to Pred!.....this is why I am posting here first, in case anyone else had experienced this, or has any suggestions....or answers.....

Thank You......

I have had PMR for about 7 years have just had a bout of dizzy spells and I also get ringing in the ears, not sure if mine is the pred or the medication for atrial fibrillation.

Whatever is to blame its very miserable.

Hope you feel better soon x

I can't  believe I'm reading about how  many people suffer from vertigo, dizziness on this forum. Im fairly new to PMR only diagnosed in Jan 2017 put on 20mg which removed all pains and stiffness within two hours of taking my first pill. I'm now down to 3mg and as I was scheduled to go to the Mediterranean on a cruise for two weeks decided to stay on 3mg and not try to taper until I was back. However, I never got to go on my vacation as the day before the ship left I awoke to the room moving when I got out of the bed I started vomiting from the pit of my stomach. Rather like seasickness. I was extremely unsteady and very fatigued. No way could I drive the car to the port.

I managed to see the doctor who believed I was suffering  from  labrinitus, and it would take about two weeks to feel right again. Luckily I got a doctors note for my travel insurance refund (hopefully). The  doctor told that this can be  brought on by a virus, and its inflammation of the labrinth that causes the feeling of the room moving when moving the head. Or getting up from the bed. Happy to report it's now a week and the dizziness has finally subsided, I've got my energy back but of course I missed my cruise! I have had a vague soreness around the ear but no ear ache, and I have no idea why this came on. Reading about so many out there,on Pred and having dizzy feelings makes me wonder if there is any correlation between inner ear infections and PMR.  I suppose my immune system is compromised. I'm due to have blood tests the first week in October and will be curious to see those results. Good luck to all out there. How lucky we are to have this great Forum to share our thoughts and worries. I've learnt more here than from any Doctors visits. Thanks for listening!

I had labrynthitis some years ago which responded to ginger root.

I was working as an anesthetist and could not function at all on the usually prescribed dizziness meds like  antivert. I was able to function on 1gm if any ginger form 4 times a day. My doctor concurred. Just came home from a cruise coughs up in very rough seas from tropical storm jose. Ginger to the rescue.

I also had labryntitis about 7 years ago, ended up in hospital. My GCA/PMR was diagnosed in June this year and as I taper (started  on 50mg)  I also get the "weird" head, the feeling of wanting to fall over, eyes that won't focus, ...mush describes it well. Because the two happened so far apart I wouldn't say they were linked. On the other hand I did have severe sinus infections Jan 2016 which needed surgery. In hospital I contracted a staph infection in the cannula site,  then a blood clot there as well. I recovered quickly, but mid year little changes  began to happen I.e. bulging discs, lost weight, lots of stress which I normally handle well suddenly became overwhelmingly, couldn't sleep. Did this virus trigger the PMR? I'd love to know but never will. Just wish the pred head and vision would settle, hate the feeling of wanting to fall sideways all the time, especially when i turn my head. Uuggghhh.

Hi linda17563, I believe my dizziness is a side effect of the Pred. It is worse if I have my head down and move quickly. Hoping it gets better when I get on lower doses. Thinking positive with a smile.🙂
