Im 17 and I have healthy anxiety. As soon as I felt this I went to google and the first thing I saw was a stroke or heart attack. Since then ive been worried SICK. Its not a heart attack bc my ekgs are always normal but what I cant stop thinking about is the stroke part. I dont know what to do because my doctors appoinment isnt until friday and its only wednesday. I notice it happens when ive been in the sun it happened yesterday and my face felt tingly and was itchy and now the corners of the nose are burning and itchy and this feeling also happens when im feeling anxiety or in a panick mode. My mom tells me its the sun but I dont care my mind is telling me its a stroke. Im scared for the doctor bc im thinking theyre going to tell me the worst news ever but im still going so I can relax if everything is fine. Im so tired of this anxiety, Im not able to control it at this point and I just want to feel better but I cant ive tried telling myself its just my head but it doesnt help . I just want to be normal and happy ((

Hi Stacey,
Sorry to hear you're suffering health anxieties. I've suffered general anxiety for years and specifically health anxieties the last 2. And during the course of this, i've made the fatal mistake of googling the many symptoms i've had each time (pains in my chest, arm, pins and needles in one half of my face or body, weakness in limbs, dizzyness, palpitations... the list goes on) and all linked to anxiety as test results come back fine.
The first piece of advice i'd offer you is please please don't google. It can be very hard when you're suffering anxiety (trust me i know) and you want that assurance, but google simply feeds back the most searched entries first based on your initial key words and unfortunately a quick scan of these generally feed back the worst case scenario first, so the only thing this does is feed your anxiety and the body reacts, making your symptoms worse. It's a viscious cycle.
The second bit of advice is relation to your primary concern of having a stroke, my cbt therapist reminded me of th - if you can tell someone your name and date of birth clearly, write a full sentence on paper, jump up and down, wriggle your fingers etc, chances are you're not having a stroke. When a stroke occurs it cuts off the oxygen supply to your brain, making it very difficult to do even simple things like i've listed.
Try keeping a journal, note down the time, trigger and what symptoms you felt (i.e. itchy/tingly skin after sun exposure) as this will help your dr understand your symptoms and find the best course of treatment for you.
Hope this helps.

Stacey,
you are not going to have a stroke. Tingly feelings anywere on the body are very common with anxiety.
I have had that same symptom on my face, on my arms, legs and even buttocks. What happens is that when you were having anxiety, your nerves can be a little irritated and that's when you get those feelings. It cannot hurt you when it's part of anxiety. Sometimes I get the feeling that there's a hair brushing along my skin when there's actually nothing there… Again anxiety.
A stroke at your age is unheard of.
Please don't Google it won't pertain to your particular individual situation.
your mind is telling you it's a stroke because with anxiety, our minds go to the negative and worst-case scenario.
my anxiety started in my 20s so I know exactly what you're going through. But you can turn that around! I did but I wasted 20 more years worrying about everything and nothing bad ever happened. Don't do that to yourself.
I suggest you speak with a counselor Who can help you turn around that negative thinking so you have peace of mind.
YouTube has some excellent meditations for anxiety and I think they could really help you! I listen a couple times a day and when I lie down to sleep. I use earbuds for a better effect. Are many to choose from for anxiety, sleep, depression, just about anything you want. They teach you how to separate negative thinking from yourself.
just remember that any anxiety symptoms cannot hurt you. They feel scary but that's all they can do. You will be just fine but please try to learn to relax and not take life too seriously. I had your same symptoms in my twenties and now I am in my fifties and still alive!! 😁??
