Weird white thing in belly button

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi, I had gallbladder removal surgery on Wednesday (12th) so on my 3rd day recovery. In alot of pain. Changed dressings, but noticed the belly button incision has a weird white looking thing in it, not pus (Sorry for sounding graphic) it looks hard, but I haven't touched it. Made me feel sick. Any idea!?? Not seeing a nurse until next week.

Hi Gayle, I'm not sure, it is possible that its some thread that they stitch you up with depending on the type of knots they use. I had dissolvable thread but I still had a bit of a knot  that fell off eventually when everything else healed.  If its not sore and its clean I would probably keep it covered so you don't knock it and show the nurse when you see her.

Let me know how you get on.

It's very odd. It looks hard and straight, like bone although I know it's not, not like a thread at all. Most peculiar...

Hi Gayle sorry for the delayed reply, when's your appointment with the nurse? As others have said perhaps its a blob of glue, when you find out what it is please let us know.

Does it hurt? For me that incision was itchy but the 2 smaller incisions were perhaps the worst for me rather than the larger incisions. I did end up covering the incisions again until they had properly healed.

Please let me know how you get on when you see the nurse. Take care x

Could it be glue? I had glue and staples on mine.

I really don't know... Wish I could post a photo on here! The belly button incision is definitely the most painful...

My cuts were covered with glue, looked like a white square over each cut.  The glue did go right into my belly button. It was hard and white, it finally fell off yesterday. But I had no dressings, only a square of glue over each cut.
