Wet Ones

I have been trying the Wet Ones.  My eyes are watering a lot now.  Is this to be expected?  My eye lids are red, but not swollen.  I have only a very small corner of each eye which seems to have a dry patch that when rubbed feels like glass shards.  Should I continue with the Wet Ones?  Am I on the right track?

    Dear Lori,

That doesn't sound right. Are you using the Red package ones? You may be allergic to something. I would stop as I had none of those symptoms.

Try using antibiotic that doctor gives for your eyes and put on your lashes instead of in your eyes.

I am sorry you are having this problem.

I am just starting with the Wet Ones (last week) but forget to do it regularly throughout the day.  I know it makes my eye lids feel dry and red.  Not sure if it is working yet, or for how many weeks you do it for.  So can't help you.

Go and see a doctor or optometrist.

Wet Ones tell you not to use them near the eye

    Hi Lori,

I'd stop using the wet ones if I were you.  Sounds like an allergy to one of the ingredients.  Don't risk your eye-sight.

    Dear Lori,

After your eyes go back to the norm there is something else that kills Blepharitis. It is the tea tree oil. The only thing is that you have to dilute it. If you have the treatment done at the eye doctors then you could ask the doctor what the ratio of tea tree oil is to water.

Google tea tree oil and BlephEx and watch the video.

Hope this offers you some relief soon,

Thanks for your help here Lynda.  I see that you are saying to use the Wet Ones on the eyelashes.  I was using them on my eye lids.  Was I using them incorrectly?  I am now trying Vagisil on my eye lids (this was recommended in another thread) as my skin was beet red around my eyes.  This has settled down the redness and itchiness on the skin.  But this can't be used on the eyelashes as it is an ointment.  I have a drs. appointment Wed and will see what she says about going back on an antibiotic.  I did have success with previous rounds of the antibiotic Vigomax and started using it externally around the eye lashes.  I got very close to getting rid of this, then ran out of antibiotic and my dr. would not renew without a visit to her office.  We'll see tomorrow.

      Dear lori,

Ask the doctor if this antibiotic kill staphylococcus. The problem is not in the eye but on the eyelashes. It took me over 3 months so it could be done if the antibiotic kills staphylococcus. How long is something you could prove. Could be a week or ten days who knows.

I rubbed the wipes on the eyelashes and that is where the online eye doctors said to use the antibiotics (called it an off label use). I put this in so you can see that there are those who do address the eyelash area as being the problem.

Put the antibiotic on the lashes and rub in.

Let me know how you are doing, please.

      Wish you relief soon,

Lynda, I had an allergic reaction to both Wet Ones and Vagisil.  Both contain dervatives of benzoide, which as it appears, I am allergic to.  I have been on an atibiotic for inflamed corneas called Pataday.  This is settling my eyes and eyelids down.  My dr. feels that stapholoccocus is a secondary symptom of blepharitis, not the cause itself.  She thinks belpharitis is a form of contact dermatitis caused by allergies.  I am now eliminating all products with fragrances, chemicals and dyes including laundry soaps, softeners, shampoos, cosmetics, facial cleaners, creams, etc. etc.  I am hoping this will resolve the issue.  In other threads, I have asked if others have gone through the allergy route and what have they found.  The Wet Ones and associated products with benzonium or retinoscol like Vagisil and Lanacaine did not work for me over time, but gave me allergic reactions like watery, red eyes, and swollen lids.  Hope others are more successful.  Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

    Dear Lori,

I was so sorry to hear this did not work for you. I hope the antibiotic cure comes out soon. Keeping your lashes clean can help to keep it from spreading too.

    Wish you better days ahead.

      Hi Lynda

I am using the Wet Ones - there are times I am hopeful and then..........  I certainly think I need to do it about 4 times a day to keep it at bay.  Did you say it took months to clear it?  Carol

      Hi Lynda 79!

The antibiotic drop I was prescribed is called Pataday.  It says it is for inflammation of the cornea caused by allergic reactions (my eyes would not stop watering profusely, my eye lids were red and inflamed!).  I started using only one drop a day as prescribed and by Sunday, I was almost back to normal.  I have only a small dry patch in the corner of the right eye left.  I started using a small amount of bicarbonate of soda dissolved in warm water to wash my eye lids in the morning and before bed as the baby shampoo was too drying (it is not chemical free and has yellow dye in it.  Maybe I could have diluted it even more.)  I still use Systane eye drops about 4X/day and run this over my eye lids during the day as well to keep the lashes clean too.  I have changed all my cosmetics to hypoallergenic and shampoo/cream rinse too.  My laundry soap and fabric softener are now free of dyes and fragrances.  If I can get rid of this one dry patch, I just "might" be home free.  But the jury is still out there!

I put this comment out there for those trying the Wet Ones to be careful about getting the product on your skin or in your eyes.  If your skin around your eyes starts to get red and your eyes start watering a lot, you could be heading towards an allergic reaction.  For me, the reaction came after about 3 weeks of regular usage.  I cannot say I was using the Wet Ones  the right way as I did rub a small portion of the cloths over my eye lids and bottom portion as well as the lashes. Even this was too much for my sensitve skin.   Everyone is different! Good luck to all!

      Dear Carol,

I used the wipes for 4 times a day just for the first week and a half. I then went down to 3 times a day for about a month. After that, it was just 2 times a day for two months. My eyes felt better and that is why I went down. Try the 3 times a day and see if you are holding. It did take almost 31/2 months to kill. My friend who used the facial scrub said she did it in a few days. They do not make that product any longer with the Benzethonium Chloride in it.

My eyes itched a time or two right after I quit. I immediately jumped on it with the wipes just for a day or two when that happened and then it was gone. That happened right after I quit. Must have not gotten it all. It has been over 11/2 years since it has been gone but I still use the throw away mascara wands. I just use 1 now on both eyes and do not put it back into the mascara. Fear is a great teacher too.

These wipes are for killing it and not a daily use forever thing.

Be sure and use 2 washcloths for your eyes so as to not infect each one again. I did that and read online that a doctor recommended it too.

This works for people who are not allergic to shampoo, fabric softener, handwipes, etc.

      Hope you have success.

      Hi Lynda79!

The Wet Ones I used have the Benzonium Chloride as the principal ingredient. I had a rection to this ingredient.  What is the active ingredient in what you are using? I'm in Canada, but can try and source it. I may have to try again!
