What approach did your surgeon use to do your hip replacement? was it the anterior or posterior approach?

My surgeon is going to use the posterior approach as its less traumatic on muscles etc and i was wondering how people on here had found it?

    Hi, Kel:

Son is now 4 weeks from RTHR. He had LTHR in early March. Both posterior, same surgeon. No muscles were cut, only separated and stretched. To my knowledge, this surgeon ONLY does posterior. The procedure takes 45 minutes, so less time under anesthesia for the patient. When you think about it, this is the procedure this surgeon is expert at. All the nurses who cared for son said this man is the best - most beautiful incisions and best recovery for his patients. And they must get 20 patients a week - some hips, some knees - and they see that other doctors' work isn't as good. One of the nurses may need her knees done - she said she's going to HIM for a consult.

This surgeon says he does at least 4 procedures a day - hips and knees and a couple other lesser ones - 3 days a week.

If you trust your surgeon, best to go with whatever procedure he usually does.

    Best to you, Kel.

I keep reading of all the people who got the hip replacement surgery in 45 minutes or so. Dang I was in there for almost 4 hours! Getting ready for my second one lthr next week on the 12th. I sure hope it goes that fast this time....My first one rthr on May 17th was posterior as will be the next one. Hope you are all doing well....Barb
