Hi Mandy. I know that this condition can drag you down but it is possible to recover completely and you certainly aren't worn out and old at 50!! I am 61, have had two frozen shoulders which at times were hard to cope with but the only way to turn it around is to keep up the activity. Physiotherapists sometimes feel like slavedrivers but they have your best interests at heart. It just boils down to the fact that you have to put in the work to feel the benefit. I don't know about your chest but if you are worried see your doctor about that. Your shoulder is connected to lots of muscles in your neck, chest and back though so it could be a related problem. Good luck with your exercises, my advice is to stick with it!!

Best to get your chest pain looked into by your doctor to put yourself at ease. You are not useless or old!! A frozen shoulder can be a very frustrating and painful injury. It is usually caused by some minor injury years ago that was never healed or more commonly by overuse (especially from repetitive jobs). The shoulder is made up of many, many muscles, tendons and 3 joints. The muscles and tendons develop scar tissue from this overuse or injury and "stick" together, causing pain on movement, especialy over the head movements. Scar tissue and pain, together prevent movement thus it gets frozen in place. Firstly, I would suggest fish oils (salmon, cod, mackeral, herring) as an anti inflammatory and a pain reducer. Also, and most importantly that scar tissue needs to be broken up, if your physio is not doing hands on deep tissue massage, get it. Chiropractors, massage therapists or some physios do this type of treatment. This is the best treatment protocol for a frozen shoulder. You may need a couple of sessions and it really hurts to get it done, especially the first time (you may need to ice after), but it truly works and works for a long time. Followed with exercises to strenghthen those muscles, you should have a successful outcome.

    Hi Mandy (81040),

50? ...61?...you just wait until you are my age 76 ...and still going strong, frozen shoulders or no frozen shoulders! Reading through your comments, I decided just now, that FS and all it's uncertainties, could be likened to any disease that takes an unlimited time to heal...or not as the case may be. We should not let this beat us into a sorrowful pulp, but learn to understand what it actually is and what we can do about it...if anything. Having reached the painful realisation that I would never ever trim the hedge again, never risk doing anything that might aggravate it or make it worse, I am sitting back and counting my blessings, for there is much that I dare risk doing that in all truth I would rather not do given the choice, and that the sun will shine through at some point and brighten my day despite what ever is going on with my FS recovery. Life is too short to get depressed about things we cannot change, and far too many people out there with far less hope than I that their world will improve. So now, I am looking for the good in what I have rather than what I have to put up with. We are not alone!

    Blessings
