What are the options if fundiplication is not effective?

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have GORD and had laparascopic fundiplication to treat this. I still have reflux and want to know what options there are for further treatment in advance of my next appointment with the consultant.

Are you having full or partial fundiplication? you may need to request PH monitor to check the acid level.

Thanks Jazz. I had a partial fundiplication. It will be very interesting to see what the consultant says at my next appointment, but I wanted to get information beforehand. This could be very useful, so thanks again.

Are you on PPI before and now stop instantly? A lot of people be advise to stop gradually i.e. reducing the dosage slowly for a period of 3 to 4 weeks. The surgery that you have is consider gold standard and partial should be good. A lot of people taking ginger product and probiotic help to improve the digestive system.

How long ago ago did you have the surgery?

If you on drug PPI for a period may require time for the tummy to adjust.

Try to eat well and healthy but 70% full with probiotic, snack if you want. You just need to reprogramme your body back as it used to be.

I had the surgery 6 months ago, and believe that I should be physically healed by now. I haven't been given PPI, but that is obviously something to discuss with the consultant when I have my next appointment with him. Information has been a bit thin on the ground, so anything I can find out now is likely to be useful to discuss with the doctor.

      Thanks again for your help.

Yes, 6 months should be enough time for PPI completely clear off your body. Try to improve your digestion system by taking probiotic tablet and find out what doesn't digest well in your tummy. Eat 70% full will help a lot.

I wouldn't go back to PPI if i given the choice.

I am being careful not to eat too much and avoiding the risks of adding more weight than would be good for me. I will look at the probiotic tablets and see what they can do for me.

Thanks again for all your help.
