And this study from Finland from 2022 pooh-pahs the theory that BLF IOLs assist in reducing glare in night time driving. Also the leading researcher; "Dr Tuuminen reported serving as a scientific adviser to Alcon Laboratories, Inc, Allergan, Inc, Bayer AG, and Novartis International AG and receiving clinical trial support (study medicines) from Bayer AG and Laboratoires Théa. No other disclosures were reported."

Good luck on your surgery tomorrow, @Spring1951! Here's to excellent outcomes for you. If you still haven't figured out which eye is your dominant one, usually the eye you use the most for distance, then just follow the standard assumption of right-handed people are right eye dominant.

You can test the dominant eye by making a triangle of your hands and putting a distant object inside the triangle. the eye that sees it without obstruction is the dominant eye. Handedness has nothing to do with it. I'm left handed and i have a right dominant eye.

Yes, I'd read a couple of comments here explaining how to do that (and a couple others), but Spring was still having problems trying to decide which it was the last I'd read. The dominant hand connection is the basic way suggested to determine it. However I am left dominant eye also, despite being right handed, so I know what you mean. Though because of the retina trying to detach in my left (dominant) eye years ago, it could no longer be the dominant eye, so my right eye has taken over. Now when I do those tests myself, I get mixed results. My left eye still tries to take over initially, but if I do them again, the right eye wins. I've done them repeatedly and I still don't get a consistent result -- but I know why. So I can understand that Spring might be getting mixed results himself doing them based upon his own history.

I know you're going in for your surgery tomorrow, but I think that the targets your surgeon suggested for you to try already indicates that your left eye is probably your dominant eye, since it has the best vision. Good luck, again!

Thanks for the good wishes for the surgery tomorrow. Because of this group and the information I have gotten about what the actual surgery is like, I am actually very relaxed about the whole thing! I lost a lot of my original fear and also have gotten really organized with day plans for the 3 days prior and day after which has really helped. I just check off the list everyday what I have to do and that reduces a lot of uncertainty and anxiety. I love to feel organized!
My doctor made some comment when I asked her about the dominant eye, that "there really is no dominant eye"? I am sure she could explain that further but there was no time to probe. I think my right eye is the dominant and I am right handed as well.
Good luck with your surgery also! At least the surgeries are over fast...... that is the best part of the whole endeavor!

Haven't been on here for a while, mostly because of my vision and frustration in Delaware but want to report I finally had success! I went out of state for surgery at Duke University -- the U.S. University system mostly uses Alcon, so Eyhance (Jand J)-can be used but is not normally.
My surgeon is a breath of fresh air! Instead of having to advocate for mini monovision, she suggested it. I have Eyhance in the right eye and a monofocal in the left and my vision is great so far! She went with a 1.4 diopter difference, she actually consulted with me right before the surgery. She s a professor as well so at the forefront of the research. Don't settle. Keep advocating. It was 6 months between lenses for me, the Delaware practice retaliated against me for complaining about an optician who was inappropriate. They actually said, "Since you complained, you can't have your second surgery here." We deserve the best vision we can get. Thanks to everyone who helped me here! RonAKA Lynda111 Spring1951 - I'm sure i am forgetiing people. This forum is great. I'm elated. I'm 3 days post op and it's great to see again.

I could write a thesis on the differences between the two, the surgical team was like a well oiled machine, and so caring and compassionate. Best of all, I actually saw the surgeon for my follow up. Don't they call that Continuity of Care? 😊
In Delaware, they had a weird inappropriate optician I had never met before, do my follow up. So awful. Now I know how it should have been. Duke was a breath of fresh air.
