I am 38 years old and I have a 8-9 cm fibroids and I have been recommended by my doctor to use esmya to help shrink it. I am scared. Can anyone tell me what are the side effects?

    Hi Narcoil,

I've never taken this medication. It sounds like it is used in preparation for surgery. I had a successful myomectomy without any drugs like this when I was 38. Is it really necessary? It sounds like the fibroids just come back after you stop using it so why put your body through this? Just curious what your goals are?

Hi the side effects vary from person to person. Mine are relatively mild, tiredness, weight gain, bad heads, muscle pain, bloating & flushes. But no periods.

Side effects were worse on Zoladex. Neither shrunk my fibroids. I'm back on Esmya now in preparation for a procedure which one I haven't decided yet, was considering UAE but arteries arent big so 50/50 chance of success. Would like a couple of months to get some weight off as infection can result in an open hystorectomy anyway. Hope this helps.

Hi, I'm so glad I've come across this forum. Very helpful to read. I'm on my second month of the tablets, within the first 10 days I felt pregnant! Sore boobs, pains down below, tired, headaches etc. Since then I have felt like a new women! My periods have stopped, I am able to urinate without staining, am not constipated, dobt have any pain anywhere it's amazing (prior to this I was suffering from constipation, difficulty urinating which was the most distressing symptom, nerve pain down one side, back pain, heavy bleading, stomach pain and all sorts of ibs type symptoms) I've been suffering for quite a few years with one huge fibroid (now the size of a baby's hea) if was 5cm a few years ago when it was discovered, I had many misscaridges then successfully carried my healthy baby girl full time, despite some complications during and after delivery (slow contractions, forceps delivery then manuel removal of placenta) it great during pregnancy to 7cm and has carried on growing since, my lo is now 2 and i miscarried again last yr. I have a prolapse womb and bladder due to its size and I'd had enough, it was making me depressed, so painful and when by blade and bowels became affected enough was enough. The drug has bought me instant relief, however I go back to gyne in october and will be demanding I have surgery, just don't know what option to go with. Dreading it growing back. My stomach has also shrunk alot. It's bought some fantastic relief from the suffering symptoms I've been having all this time

Hi all, I'm on day 19 of Esmya and so far I'm all over the place!

Definitely experiencing headaches, fatigue, pain in the fibroid area and still some spotting with so far one episode of flooding.

It feels as if I have a battle going on in my uterus!
