What can cause one sided deafness?

I have got pretty bad one sided deafness - have been to ENT who have found out it's not an acoustic neuroma - and aside from telling me they will give me a hearing aid - they are sending me to see neurology. I do have the occasional dizzy spell- and I am pretty clumsy and unsteady on my feet - but I also have issues with my tongue (it gets randomly sore) and things taste funny - to the point I have gone off a few things I used to love! I seem to have all kinds of weird stuff going on. Just wondering if it's worth getting my thyroid checked again? I had a high normal reading last year and wonder if this might cause it rather than the neural pathways?

So sorry for you ! I have decreased hearing on right side due to ETD. Had surgery which didn't have a good outcome, and bad allergies which keep me stuffy.

Yesterday, my eardrum perforated and fluid came out. I went to ENT who suctioned out fluid ( awful) and scooped out gunk. It was miserable. I am dizzy, have hissing, and in pain. It is awful to have ear problems.

Has anyone out there had a burst eardrum /? Google says they take two or three months to heal ! So upset.

Judi - that is awful! I rather think that that ears do take a long time to heal. I had a really bad ear infection about 12 years ago or so - and that took a good 3 months to resolve - no perforation - but headaches and dizziness every day. I have constant tinnitus in my affected ear - like being between radio stations - and always much worse at the end of the day! You have my sympathy - I hope someone who has had this can advise!
