What can I do to help ease my pain?

On awaking I have gnawing pain in my stomach then when I eat/drink I get sharp pain just above my stomach, and so it goes on all day I'm so bloated you'd ask when's baby due....

I was diagnosed 2yrs ago with Helicobactor Pylori and treated with antibiotics which sadly I had an allergic reactions so all treatment stopped.

I have had a manometry which showed abnormality's akin to achalasia.....

Awaiting to have another endoscopy & manometry tests. My consultant talked about a stretching proceedure which sadly they are saying it could be very risky for me ( I have x3 benign tumors in my heart) so I take warfarin 14gms daily.

I already take Esomeprazole 40mg daily.. Isosorbide Dinitrate 20mg twice a day..  After every meal I take Gaviscon to help with the pain in my stomach which partially soothes for 20mins.. then the pain starts in gusto both stomach and oesophagus

I have been suffering for nearly 2years sadly my symptoms are classed only as routine not urgent so its waiting three months between appointments.

Any suggestions in what else I can do or take to help ease my pain.

Sorry its reads like a epitome.

Sorry to hear you are not well, pain does get you down . I take regular pain killers paracetamol and codeine a make in the uk called solpdadiene max soluble . I never let my pain get to its worst I control it . Recently my specialist asked me why I hadn't lost weight like many other people ,I was brutally honest with him I sometimes drink too much wine I can eat sleep and it relaxes the oesophagus . He laughed and said good strategy , I alps practice yoga breathing . Seems to help particularily when have awful tests .take keep strong x

      Thanks Deborah

I do take solpadiene at times but i find it aggravates my stomach. I was feeling a bit sorry for myself today after once again I had rung the hospital to find where I was on the waiting list.... I find the pain is easier when I've had a drink perhaps I should throw the medicines away and start to drink more Haha!.

We can only speculate because of not being medically qualified and not knowing all the details.   But...   I wonder if this is the result of bacterial infection in your digestive system.   One of the functions of stomach acid is to control some of this, and the esomeprazole would reduce the stomach acid.   So I would be inclined to seek the advice of your doctor and/or gastroenterologist for the possibility of specialist antibiotics helping?   It would be a separate issue from most of the other issues, but might also be a flare up of helicobacter pylori?

The effect of the gaviscon also suggests that some of the pain is to do with stomach acid/contents cuaisng problems.   Routine appointments are designed to be just that, but most doctors / their secretaries would recognise the need to bring the next appointment forward to deal with new development of pain, so I would get in contact.

      Hi Alan

Thanks for your reply sadly the reason why I have to wait so long between appointments and tests is that the Consultant I see tells me often that all Urgent / Soon appointment are kept for cancer related illness which I do understand but  it would be nice if I could get closure with my diagnosis and know just what is causing all this pain so I'm being patient and waiting for the future tests to be done.

I think that is a common problem, and the demands of cancer are at the expense of many deserving situations. It is understandable in some ways because early diagnosis of cancer can often be a life saver, but it would be nice if that priority was not at the expense of other urgent situations.

It's sad but true we are not treated as a matter of urgency , which I believe is grossly unfair !as this illness is really nasty. So my advice is complain more , and regularly .speak to the chief executives office at hospital . They have to listen don't be fobbed off we all deserve to be well . I took 4 years of mis diagnosis . I have kept battling .

    Keep strong x

I  sent a letter pointing this out that I should be shown the same diversity apparently this consultant treats all gastroenterology problems,  I asked why they didn't have separate lists but that went on deaf ears. its so wrong to have to fight to be heard,  pain is pain it drags you down.

I hope you are doing well now. X

HI, my husband has suffered for 7 years and doctors said it was IBS. He has had tests and diagnosed with Hiatus hernia and Gordon (reflux disease). As he also has had arthritis for many years he has been on paracetAmol and code in 500/30. After worsening symptoms he recently saw a specialist again who is willing to do tests again but he also suggested it could be the code in as this causes inflammation and slowing down of the bowel could lead to blockages. My husband has been off code in for 4 weeks and already his stomach pain and discomfort has greatly improved. He is still to have tests to rule out other causes but even so he is already feeling better for not taking codein. This applies to any narcotic drug. I hope this may be of some use.
