What can I eat for Breakfast?

Posted , 5 users are following.

I am new to Coeliac Disease and a quick scout around my local Tesco is tough. Although there are products that are gluten free an the cereal area there doesn't seem to be anything other than Porridge that is suitable.

Can anyone help me out .................What cereals are ok to eat?

There are some cereals available on prescription, which you should now be getting as a confirmed coeliac - Juvela fibre flakes and cornflakes, for example.

Brands to look out for in the supermarket include Nature's Path, Kallo and Eat Natural for a variety of gluten-free cereals.

If you can tolerate oats, I know that both Sainsbury's and Tesco do a pure oats-based muesli (or you could make your own by adding seeds and dried fruit to oats you can get on prescription).

    There's always gluten-free toast.

Don't forget that you need to be looking in the 'Free From' section for these specialty cereals as they're not normally stored with the regular cereals.

And if you have more time at breakfast, you could whip up some gluten-free pancakes in minutes and have these with fruit and yoghurt.

    Hope that helps.

Join Coeliac Org UK and you will get their Food Directory as well as a quarterly Magazine with lots of information - essential when you are newly diagnosed. Only about £15 p.a. and worth every penny! Lists gluten free products in all the major Supermarkets as well as specific GF outlets.
