After effects of cataract surgery. Why do I keep getting gritty eyes when I get the least bit emotional or stressed. When I get visitors etc. Will it calm down.

Sorry Beryl you are experiencing that. It's incredible how our physical selves respond to stresses - emotional or otherwise.
Do you have artificial tears? I use Systane drops. Was using Systane Ultra but found put through someone here on forums Systane makes a preservative free one now. They help with dry eye a lot. I consistently used the drops for a good year - now 2 years later I do not need them as much but still need them time to time. Other thing you might want to do is but some flaxseed oil supplements or Omega 3 supplements and take one daily. I found that helps combat dry eye too.
Hard to tell you not to stress but we all gave things that do stress us out. Do you have something you enjoy doing? I find it helps to take my mind off of it and get busy with something else.

Thank you for your good advice, I have Celluvise eye drops which I use a lot. You have just reminded me to take a cod liver oil capsule. I will get some flaxseed oil.

I still take a flaxseed oil supplement daily - other health benefits to doing that as well.
It is very normal to use artificial tears frequently. Especially as your surgeries weren't that long ago.

It is most likely dry eyes. You could apply some preservative free drops to ease it. Plus you have just been operated recently so maybe the surface of the eye is bit inflamed or not smooth? Also with age you get more dry eyes anyway,
Dry eyes causes the corneal epithelium layer to get rough or scarred.
I have dry eyes too. I got it because while sleeping my eyelid opens sometimes and causes my eyes to dry out.
I take preservative free drops called Lacrycon 4 times a day and at night I apply a Vitamin A based thick gel that promotes epithelial regeneration. Only started 2 weeks ago and seems better.

I got the gritty eyes from using the eye drops.Even the preservative free ones. Have always had an issue with them. Wore contacts for 45 years. I would sit in a chair for 5 to 10 minutes when I got stressed with my eyes shut and not focused on anything. As months go by I have no more issues now. Been a year since both my surgeries. Don't have much more advice just good wishes your way. No more stress. Ruby

Hi Ruby. I have had far too many Dexa eye drops, been putting them in since February. Got appointment 12 September to sort out my scar tissue problem so will most likely get more.

Hi Beryl. I was on the eye drops for over a month and then I stopped on my own and my eyes got better from then on. Never had another issue. I remember about 30 years ago I had problem with some eye drops when I got some fiberglass in my eye. I wish you the best. All the eye specialist kept saying I needed the eye drops and then I stopped and was so happy. They would not listen to me. Keep me posted please. Thanks, Ruby
