What circumstances do others go into AF?

Would like to ask what may seem like a daft question because I know we are all different however I just wondered - What symptons do others get when they go into AF? And are there times in tends to happen to you?
For me its a flutter almost like indigestion right in the middle of my chest. It typically can happen in the early hours 1.30 and 4.15 being favourite times often followed by going to toilet. Other times it seems to have happened after an eventful day or after a medical test and when I have gone to eat. Yet normally eating doesn't seem to flip it. I guess I am puzzled over the fact it's hard to tell if there is a digestive element so am just curious at what others experince. Just had a AF event this morning thankfully all settled by taking my morning dose early with a little bit extra and am seeing consultant this week anyway. Thanks

Hi Kate: I'm new here. I have been struggling with this afib thing for a while. major attack on July 18 - cardioverted and sent home next day with lots of meds. the meds made everything worse. I stayed on them for two weeks and got off. w/o dr approval. I am just making a connection to food. Everytime I eat I have the beginnings of an attack. I do take allergy shots for weeds, trees, grass etc so have the histamine antigen. So I took histamine shot the last time the attack started and it stopped it. That was a week ago and I've had a histamine shot nearly every day since. Seeing doc on Friday and allergy doc on Mon. I have been reading about Vagal Afib - .. kinds sounds like us ?? what do you think ?

well, for the day you might try allegra - that also is an antihistamine, but without the drowsiness.

yes, I have switched to a daily allergy pill. It has helped. I see my doctor on Monday. He will probably do some food allergy testing. The cardiologists are useless as far as finding the triggers for these attacks. I feel like I am sitting on a time bomb and the next one might get me. My heart rate went to 250 last time - I am lucky the paramedics got here quickly. I don't want another attack .. lol I am sure none of us do.

Beware - it may not be an allergy, but an intolerance. Allergy versus intolerance are related but different. Both however could upsat the vagus nerve in the stomach and send your heart into a messy situation....
Sometimes an allergy test is simple to do, whereas an intolerance test is much more difficult and often a food intolerance is found by simply avoiding certain triggers. Docs that are not specialists are not very good at that stuff.
Good luck

There are some similarities in us but I don't feel mine is just when I eat something. I can just drink water and I get very bloated but it doesn't trigger an attack although at same time I have had an attack just after a meal. I also think I have intolerances not allergies as Frank mentions it is all so complicated. Alas there is no clear but pattern. You mention stopping the tablets and in many ways when I had the first NEW attack nearly 2 years ago after a break of a year or so with no meds ....I wish then I had not gone on all the MEDS and had been given flecinide as a POP a PILL to stop the attacks if and when they happened started. I've kept myself out of A&E since I have been advised to use extra flecanide as pop a pill in addition to normal daily amounts. The way you say you feel like a time bomb - I do understand that feeling - I am like that all the time .... I am trying to keep my body as calm as possible all the time. Only the experience of the fact that most of the time I feel that that the bomb doesn't go off gives me some confidence to cope. LIfe is tricky but I have no choice other than to be as positive as possible and keep going. I see the consultant to review the ablation question soon. I have resisted so far but feel physically so unwell I will have to revisit it. You are not alone and I sympathise with your prediciment.
